Superb GPS for bike tourists
Garmin Edge ExploreHi everyone, after several years trying to navigate using my iPhone - with all the associated battery and connection stress - I decided to get a GPS unit.I did the usual research - 10 hours watching YouTube videos and became a little disheartened at the price of the latest units. So, I pared down my requirements. What I actually need is a really robust and reliable navigation tool. I don’t need all the bells and whistles like power meters and mind blowing levels of data. Refining my requirements in this way got me out of all the tech freakery and helped me identify the Garmin Edge Explore 2. It’s a pared down version of the top end models Garmin have aimed squarely at bike tourists. It seemed to have everything I need. But wait! The earlier model - The Garmin Edge Explore has nearly the exact same functions, it’s a lot cheaper than the new version. What’s the catch I thought? Plunged back into YouTube. The only significant difference is that it uses USB C and a better charge point position - you can charge it as you go, while the earlier version has the micro USB slot underneath where it mounts. Battery life on the newer model may also be a little bit better but mine handles 6 hours of riding with plenty left in the tank. Not a deal breaker then. So, I decided the GE Explore would do the job. At around £225 it is way cheaper than the top end models. But, hold up. What’s this? Amazon have the GE Explore for sale at £130. Returned and refurbished units - so it says. I bought one and it arrived next day. It looks brand new, works perfectly and is an amazing GPS for bike tourists (you know the slow ones like me). Totally blown away by this complete bargain - the top end Garmin retails for over £500.The little thing is really wonderful. Works perfectly with Komoot too. No export / import nonsense. Just syncs up your Komoot right on the unit. Select your ride and go! Superb.Hope you find this useful folks.

Great Computer for Cycletouring
I bought this refurbished through Amazon. Its condition suggests that it has never been used - the computer is pristine. So 5 stars for the computer and Amazon's refurbished/second hand service.

First one faulty second one seems fine so far
My original review is below, this is for my second unit which seems to be holding its charge ok. no way will I get 12 hours out of it but this seems to be pretty standard for the Explore . The functionality is good and there are plenty of online reviews to expand on that. I already have a Lezyne Mega XL which I really like and recommend if you are into all the sporting performance measures as well as a bit of touring. Its battery lasts for ever and I thought long and hard about if getting the Garmin was worth it. I am keeping the Lezyne for my road bikes (its turn by turn directions are good) but I will be cycling through Paris and through France later in the year and wanted the greater map detail and street names of the Garmin compared to the Lezynes black and white maps. The Garmins integration with Komoot is excellent, perhaps better than the Lezynes. I have also realised that you can get 90% flat USB cables and it may be possible to connect a battery pack to overcome the relatively poor battery life of the Garmin.I have to say this is the second refurbished item I have purchased off Amazon ( the other a Fire tablet) and the second that I have had to return as faulty. The Fire tablet had a common fault but nothing had been done to rectify it.This Garmin arrived with no charge. That set the alarm bells ringing. Charged it up, set it all up. Switched it off and came back to it after dinner, switched it on and it was down to 80% in no time. It would not make 1 hour let alone 12. The Explore itself is good. Its going straight back tomorrow and I have requested another but if that comes faulty too its the last Amazon refurbed item I am buying that is for sure.

It's Ok, just ok
Massive bargain during prime day, much better bike routes than trusting Google which would cheerfully send a cyclist onto a major A road, motorway, or into a nuclear reactor. The battery is (so far) pretty crap..sure I can switch a few settings but a hour ride left me nervous that it was going to run out. Absolute bargain but not yet sure if I can plug an external battery to it because of where the usb port is. Don't regret buying.

Garmin Edge Explore Touchscreen
I purchased the refurbished model, and I must say you wouldn't know the difference, everything works a treat, and has everything I need for my rides. Small compact unit, good mapping and so far record's all of my rides.I now have to save up for the additional varia alarm system lol.

Highly recommend
Great toolIt’s great having a device that relaxes my phone. Been using a mobile phone and the worst part of this is that my battery never lasted the distance and was a big issue in cases of emergencies.Using the Garmin Explore has been a massive help . The battery is great and I can still use my phone for the purposes it was meant to be used for

Fantastic
Really good size screen, turn by turn navigation and rerouting. Great if you don't know an area but also recommended for your regular routes. Shame it doesn't come with a case but that is a minor quibble. You'd swear it was brand new too, would never guess it was pre-owned. Highly recommended

Exceptional Value and Performance
I recently purchased the Garmin Edge Explore GPS Bicycle Sat Nav, and I’m thoroughly impressed with its performance and features. The renewed model offers incredible value, providing top-notch navigation and mapping capabilities at a fraction of the cost of a new unit. The pre-installed Europe map is a fantastic addition, ensuring that I’m always on the right track whether I’m exploring familiar routes or venturing into new areas. The interface is user-friendly and intuitive, making it easy to plan routes, track performance, and access vital navigation information on the go.The GPS accuracy is spot-on, and the device is sturdy and reliable even in challenging weather conditions. It’s been a game-changer for both my everyday rides and longer cycling adventures. The renewed condition of the unit doesn’t detract from its performance—everything works as if it were brand new.If you’re in need of a high-quality GPS for your bike that combines reliability with great value, the Garmin Edge Explore is a superb choice. Highly recommended for any cycling enthusiast!
