The Rescuer: One Firefighter’s Story of Courage, Darkness, and the Relentless Love That Saved Him

Gut-wrenching and powerfully inspirational
Do you ever wonder what a fireman does on a daily basis? He attempts to rescue others. But what happens when he himself needs to be rescued, not just physically, but from the hopelessness and despair he keeps inside? This true story is written by a fireman who has seen up close what many of us will never see even from afar. He recounts these moments in vivid detail: it truly feels like we are right there with him. "The Rescuer" is a must-read. Powerful, sad, genuine, and yes, inspirational! It is the story of how overwhelming darkness can be conquered with a more overwhelming light! Whether you are a Christian or not, you will love and appreciate Jason's story and the way he tells it!

Wonderful book.
O Love, that will not let me go, I rest my weary soul in Thee....I give thee back the life I owe, That in thine ocean depths its flowMay richer, fuller be.O Joy that seekest me through pain, I cannot close my heart to thee...I learned a lot about firemen and others who serve people with all of their lives... details of the profession and procedures, what they are exposed to and how acute their response must be.... and a man pursued by our Lord... the pain God gives us to bring us to need Him, and be healed in His love. The story was good, I read in two sittings. I appreciated the serving heart, the embracing of all humans as ones to be saved. The man is intense, it was a look into his mind and soul. I thought his Kristie is truly an amazing woman, walking in love, loving him in the Love that is Jesus.

Refreshing book with hope
I really enjoyed this book. The authors vulnerability to give us a glimpse of what goes on behind the firehouse doors and on the streets, was heavy and humorous at times. I felt like a friend of mine was telling me a story of his hard career. Then came his testimony of how God continued to pursue him, and how he found his soul mate and moved into the light. I hear that he is working on a second book, and that he has a Podcast out. I plan to listen to his Podcasts, and read his next book. We need more heroes, and despite the initial darkness that was gripping him...it was refreshing to know there are good people in the world willing to give their all to "serve and protect" us.

Riveting and
I am so glad I read this book. I was encouraged to order it by Jason Sautel's wife, who is in my Bible Study and who is a fantastic person and strong Christian who "walks the talk" as you will see towards the end of the book. It was riveting to read what Jason experienced and shared with us from his early life and the drive he had to succeed in his profession. I did not realize how hard it is for these firefighters to encounter so much tragedy and what they need to do to just put on a "stiff upper lip" and go on to the next emergency that requires their attention. I am so impressed. I am also very thankful that Jason found Jesus as his rescuer and the love of my special friend, Kristie. I could not put this book down and had to read it from start to finish just to find out what happens next. I am glad that Jason told this story in his own words. At first I wanted to correct his grammar (just because that's what I do....) but then I appreciated the way Jason told the story because it was so real and raw. He got the message through and I am so glad I read this book. I can truthfully recommend to all.

Maydays reach heaven
I’ve been tackling this book bit by bit for some time now but as I reached the end I couldn’t help but power through it! It was such a fantastic story. Retiree Firefighter-Paramedic Sautel does a great job of illustrating the life of firefighter while on the job. He also does a great job of laying his heart on the line and really giving you the nitty gritty of his backstory. I wanted more Jesus but he definitely threw the big K.O. at the end with how the story wrapped up. I didn’t want it to end honestly. God is so good!

From the depths of hell...
My biggest complaint was that the book was finished. My own experience as a paramedic, fire-fighter, dispatcher and naval veteran brought me to those very gates as well.I am in awe about what you shared here and how much rings true in your experiences as a first responder as well as mine.I started several years ago to write my own experience, strength, and hope but has been stymied by self doubt and I guess personal loathing. You know the feeling of never feeling like your good enoughThank you for your service and your honestySteve WiltonRetired Paramedic, Fire-fighter you get the drift.

Very well written
I'm a volunteer fire fighter in n.s Canada. Its those dark moments n loneliness that the book hit on was so true. The feeling of finding help to get us out of them day days. This book hits every feeling a person could have as a firefighter.

Hard to put down.
Easy read. I can relate to the struggle for my heart between God vs Satan. I love the optimism he has for life based on his relationship with God.

Book of courage in life.
This book is a true reflection not a glorifying of this chosen career. God bless all of our first responders.
