I Stepped Up to Better Tasting Water!
I have used Brita Pitchers for many years, but after reading reviews I thought I would try Pur which is supposed to remove more impurities. I have been very satisfied. Water is great with no after taste or smell. Great for drinking and making excellent coffee. I did not find it to be flimsy or cumbersome. Nice ergonomic size and easy to lift and pour. Does not hold quite as much at the Brita's I had used, but no big deal. Filling is easy and filtering is fast. Filters are reasonably priced and perform well for a couple months.

Slow To Filter But Fixed With New Filter Model
Update:I installed the replacement filter. The filter that came with the pitch was the older model. The replacement PUR sent me was the new and improved "faster" model advertised to filter "twice as fast".I put 2 cups of water in the reservoir and it emptied in 2 minutes! That same amount of water took 20 minutes with the old filter so this new filter is 10x faster according to my test. I could see the water go down. No water came out from around the filter mount so I know it was sealed tight with the o-ring.I am very pleased with the new filter. Note that this one does not filter lead but neither did the old model.Original Review:I've had this 7-cup pitcher for about a month now and I have mixed feelings about it. I really want to like this pitcher as I am drinking more water now but the slow-to-no filtering is frustrating. When I first got it, I followed the directions and soaked the filter for 15 minutes before inserting it. I filled the top reservoir with 2 cups of water and timed it to see how long it took the water to filter through. After 40 minutes, only half of the water went through. PUR includes an insert card with instructions for what to do if the filter performs slowly (not a good sign). I shook the filter and rinsed it upside down to clear the ports as recommended. After that, I restarted the test and after 40 minutes most of the water had filtered through. I refilled the reservoir (it holds about 2-1/2 to 3 cups of water) and put the pitcher in the refrigerator overnight. The next morning, the water had all gone through. I used 2 cups and added 2 cups back in. This time it took about 30 minutes for most of the water to filter through. There was about 1/2 cup left in the top but it eventually went through before I used it again later that day. After a few days, the best time I got was about 10 minutes per cup or 30 minutes for a full reservoir. After a week, it completely stopped filtering. One evening, I filled the reservoir and by the next morning there was still water in the reservoir. I emptied the reservoir and then shook and rinsed the filter. That got it working again for another week when it would stop working again. Rinse and repeat. With two days left in my return window, I called PUR Customer Service. The woman I spoke with was very friendly and helpful. She told me that the normal time for the reservoir to empty in the 7-cup model is one hour so my 30 minutes was well within specs. What was not normal was for it to stop working entirely after one week and requiring me to shake and rinse it. PUR is sending me a "one time courtesy" replacement filter to try. I'm hoping I just got a bad filter but I don't know. The other thing I discovered during this time is not to fill it directly from the tap. The bubbles from the aerator get trapped in the filter cartridge and stop the water flow. When that happens, the way I found to clear it is to slosh the water around in the reservoir; you'll see the air bubbles will come up through the filter and the water will start filtering again. If that fails, empty the reservoir and start over. The best way to fill it is to fill a measuring cup, or some other container, first to let the air bubbles escape then pour that water into the reservoir.

Works well but top leaves something to be desired.
I have been using a pur pitcher since like forever... and decided to get a new one. Mine was so old and scratched up and I was worried maybe the plastic was getting brittle from old age. Also the idea of an extra cup over my old one was attractive and thought the opening in the top maybe nice to have.I don't regret the purchase but let me give my opinion on it. The top is a mess. Trying to use the opening in the top does not work for me. You have to put the opening under the faucet and turn it on otherwise the water hits the top, not a big deal but a bit of a pain if you are used to just putting the pitcher under an already running faucet. Another thing that bothers me is the hinge of the water filling lid is right where I want to put my thumb to give me a sense of security when pouring. This is important because compared to the old model you have to till this one higher. Since taking the lid on and off to fill does not bother me I glued the water filler lid closed. This way could put my thumb on the back. The spout. YIKES. Good luck with that. Maybe people were worried about dust or something getting in but it causes more problems than it solves. Trying to fill a water bottle (reusing one that held bottle water) is a pain. You have to pout enough water to get the lid open and you are not sure exactly where the water will come out and/or how much and as I said you have to tip this newer model up further... I haven't done it yet but I plan to break the little pour spot cover off.I still like it and I do like the extra capacity. It also seems like you can pour a little more in the top to filter than you could with the old model. But the top leaves a little bit to be desired if you are used to the simplicity of the older model.Tip for people who may have trouble with slow filtering. Make sure you soak the filter before use. I soak it for a while right side up and then upside down. Not sure if that helps or not. If you notice it slowing down in filtering I do this. I put a towel on the counter and I knock the pitcher down on the counter. Don't smash it but a good little bump. You will most likely see a few bubbles come out of the top of the filter. After that, if the filter is not too old you should get back to reasonable filtering speeds.

How many contaminants are ok
We live in the country & I love it, but there are cows across the road & our pipes leak metal chips into our water. I have enough health issues without adding bacteria from our ground water & metal accumulation from our pipes. A daughter uses a competitor & the water is fine, but... we go to the beach twice a year & I am tired of the expense & labor of lugging plan old bottled water to the beach. I decided that this filter system would be worth a try. So far it has greatly reduced the metal particles in my tap water. Our water tastes good, so I will have to wait for our next trip to the beach to see if the filter helps the taste of beach water. Fingers crossed.

It looks beautiful.
I thought that this 7 cup pitcher might be too small but it is just right size for us and it does not take too much space in our fridge. My son likes the taste of the water. Yes, the lid is too easy to come off. Just wait until the all water go down the filter before you pour to your glass.

Water comes out dirtier than tap water (I tested 9 times)
I spent the whole morning testing this device. I installed the filter as per their manual and I started measuring water purity with the device I have. The water comes out of this PUR filter as dirty or dirtier than the tap water. I thought it could be due to carbon particles due to filter being new - so I re-tested 9 times - and I always get the same result - the water out of the filter is slightly dirtier than the tap water. I am returning this. I would not recommend it to anyone. Get a ZERO water instead - it actually works.
