Works great in my RV
I replaced the smoke detector in my RV with this detector. Was easy to install the mounting plate. This detector has two features that I really like. First, the test button will also turn off a false alarm. When cooking the old detector would go off and the only way to shut it up was to remove it from the ceiling and put it by an open window or remove the battery. On this one all I have to do is press the test button and it turns off the alarm. Second, this detector has a mounting ring that attaches to the ceiling and the detector installs in that ring with a twist. This detector has a small plastic pin that inserts into the mounting ring to prevent the detector from untwisting and falling to the floor when driving. My original detector had no such feature and had to be replaced because it worked free and died a horrible death on my RV floor. The detector is supposed to come with a 9V battery but mine did not. No problem, Amazon credited my account a few bucks to cover the cost of the battery. Can't say enough good about Amazon customer service.

I guess it works?
As I haven't had to deal with a fire emergency in my apartment, I can't say with total confidence that this thing does its job. Thank heaven, right? Not least because it emits an ear-splitting 80 decibel scream when it does go off. But that's why I give it 5 stars, because it *doesn't * go off with false alarms but perches quietly on the ceiling blinking every 60 seconds or so to let me know that it is on. Also it is easily silenced with the press of a button when I test it and the cover comes off very easily when it's time to change batteries. No wrestling involved. So on that basis I give it 5 stars.

Doing perfectly so far
The price point at the time of my purchase was in the 8-10 dollar range, which I consider very reasonable. This replaced an old Kidde "Nighthawk" that I had put in my dining room when I'd bought my home in 2020. Subsequently, after some remodeling, I ended up with hard-wired units in my living room/adjoining bedroom (2 Kidde's, on the same circuit), and then a trio of Kidde's in my foyer/added bedroom, also hard wired on their own circuit (one of these 3 being a CO/smoke alarm combo). My only other smoke detector is a First Alert, covering an upstairs bedroom & bathroom, also battery operated and not hard wired, like this one. It is close to end-of-life.This Kidde detector installed easily, and it seems less vulnerable to being set-off by innocent cooking in my kitchen, relative to the old Nighthawk it replaced. How it performs in a house fire is hopefully something I'll never have to come back in here to report about.I could possibly return and update this review if the included 9-volt battery (which in my experience are often of sub-par quality and have poor longevity, compared to the Duracell's I normally replace them with) were to end up lasting only a year or two. But at this point, 1 month in, it's all good.I'll probably purchase another one if the price stays the same.

Lithium battery does not work
I could not use a lithium 9v battery with this smoke alarm. It did not fit in the battery compartment and when I read the instructions, they said only a regular 9v battery would work(and then only certain 9v batteries). Also like most smoke alarms it has that annoying flashing light which may keep you up if it’s installed in your bedroom. The “hush” button only works for 8 minutes. Thus if it is loudly beeping because it needs a new battery , you may find yourself changing it at 3 a.m. Easy to install and change the battery.

Very good functionality at a reasonable price.
Very good functionality at a reasonable price. I previously bought 2 of the newer kind (First Alert) that are supposed to have a 10 year guaranteed battery, which of course only lasted 2 years and then died. (both of them) This product made by Kidde will need batteries to be replaces but will last much longer into the future (based on their track record). There's also a new feature that when you get a false alarm caused by your Wok cooking, you can just short press the button once to silence the alarm for 5 minutes. That's time enough to finish cooking (or getting the burnt toast into the garbage can). A great feature for those of us who love cooking without constant beeping. I highly recommend this Kidde. smoke alarm.
