Tackling the Tornados of Fear
You gotta know that a book on fear works when you’re finishing up the last few pages in your hallway reading by flashlight waiting out a tornado. Which is what happened to me. Nothing more fitting than a book that encourages you to overcome fear while you’re staring it in the face.As three tornados touched down in my area that very night, I had the calm assurance that my God would take care of me and my family. When I landed on page 229, the words jumped from the page into my spirit.“You are always at work. I can trust You. You are doing something. Help me reach out to grab Your hand that is always extended to me, even when I am cowering, shivering, and perspiring in fear. Amen.”This wasn’t the first tornado I’ve faced nor is it the first tornado of fear I’ve tried to push away. I’ve purchased many books on the subject hoping, praying to be set free from it’s icy grip. Fear has always been there sneaking in the shadows of my mind waiting to my most vulnerable moments to press down on me.I’ve tried human efforts only to fail multiple times. This book is different. It takes the focus off of your efforts and places them solely on the effort and works of God’s Spirit. This book has opened my eyes and confirmed the supernatural things that I had hoped to be true.We as Christians have a real force working on our behalf. The battle isn’t determined by our efforts but by our beliefs in that force. Working through the questions at the back of the book were most helpful in realizing the many areas that I’ve put my trust into my own efforts which is futile. If you’ve found yourself facing your own tornados feeling like your self efforts were at best hopeless, this book is for you. Learn how to replace fear with truth. It’s the only method that really works. This book will teach you how to allow God’s Spirit to enable you to have the power to defeat your old enemy, fear.Disclaimer: I did receive a free copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review. All opinions herein are my own.

Taking Fear Personally
Fear makes sense. In Kelly Balarie’s book Fear Fighting, we see this firsthand. Very peppy and conversational, Fear Fighting is basically a highly motivational devotional. You’ll find Kelly very real and relatable as a woman who both loves God and struggles with fear. But what makes this book different is Kelly doesn’t run from fear or call it dumb or doubtful. She doesn’t ask us to scare ourselves out of feeling it.According to Kelly, living fearlessly isn’t a matter of learning to lock our knocking knees or bite our quivering lips. There is no 5-step plan for us to fear failing at. We don’t have to undertake an intimidating process of becoming someone we’re not. Fear isn’t defeated when we muster up the guts to stare it down…but it loses its power when we fix our eyes on Him.“We let go of all we are not and see all that God is,” Kelly says. Her proposal is simple: “The Spirit says start. Start fearing God rather than fearing everyone is going to take you down.”*Kelly knows fear, and she knows we can’t beat it by pretending we can. Instead, she reminds us who can and who has.Our Savior.Bravery is fearing God. I love how Kelly brings this truth out.In the book, you’ll find this message proclaimed loud and clear right alongside stories to illustrate the point and dig deeper. Kelly offers several practical memory devices and strategies to help us fear-fighting readers reorient ourselves to God’s hugeness. At the end of each chapter Kelly also provides “something to chew” to help process her points about fear and faith. Definitely a helpful, encouraging read with the power to be used by God to change lives and embolden hearts.*Pg49, Fear Fighting by Kelly Balarie

Fighting fear the right way
I think most humans suffer from fear much more than necessary. It distracts and imprisons, and I for one have suffered from it for too long.Kelly Balarie’s book is a God send. The book is outlined very easily, entitled with all the different harbingers of fear, like control, worry, the past, rejection, and my favorite, “Waiting While Trembling.” Balarie’s book offers personal narrative, a rich offering of biblical knowledge and handy verses to study and memorize. She gives us “Something to Chew On” at the end of each chapter, to journal about and add to the study.I found this quote to be one of my favorites: “I want to love me a little more. I want to run back to me, that seven—year-old girl, grab hold of her shoulders, look into her sullen and scared eyes, and tell her, ‘Sweet one, please know: you are seen, so seen. Just believe, grab hold, and fly where He flies. By His might, you’re bound to end up okay.’”Kelly Balarie helps us to fly. I am profoundly grateful for her words. As a fellow author, I am also grateful for her fluid writing and her story-telling. This book is a gem. - Dana Bowman, Bottled: A Mom's Guide to Early Recovery
