Safety Hazard on Toaster
The first time toaster was used the toast was badly burned with black smoke throughout my house. Investigation indicated a small label (see photo) affixed across the slot where the lever operates. This is on clear plastic, printed in silver lettering and is in a dark recess and therefore difficult to see. The label had prevented the toaster from flipping up the toast and switching off power after the pre-set time. I have returned the products as I had lost confidence in the toaster but, in the interests of public safety, contacted Russell Hobbs to bring this safety hazard to their attention. The first customer service agent I spoke to was indifferent and implied it was my fault as I had not removed the label as instructed. I asked to speak to a supervisor and did receive a call back which, unfortunately, went to my voice mail. I was invited via the voice mail to call back and speak to an other supervisor but, when I did so, was told that no one was available that day. The response from this agent was more positive but he stated that no further action was required as the problem was known - I had failed to remove the label. I declined the offer of a free toaster as I reiterated I was contacting the company in the interests of public safety and in the hope that action would be taken to remove this hazard. I feel I have done as much as I reasonably can but I was surprised and disappointed at Russell Hobb's apparent indifference to customers' safety. If you buy this product please make sure you have removed the label before use.

Quick heating of water in kettle and toast just right in toaster.
Very pleased with both toaster and kettle. They get a Best Buy from Which magazine. One downside to the kettle, remove the plastic guide inside the kettle it is a simple klick on.If you do not remove the plastic you will have a very bad plastic taste in your drinks and the plastic will leech cancer causing chemicals in your drinks.I cannot understand how a manufacturer would include plastic after all the health warnings over leaving water in plastic containers in the sun.

FIRE HAZARD!!
Avoid. The toaster is a fire hazard.I have purchased this twice. Both times the release has failed to release and the toaster just keeps on toasting. First time I assumed I'd just been unlucky and ended up with the one dodgy one so returned it and ordered a replacement. But then it happened again so now I feel there is something fundamentally wrong with it.Shame, as I liked the kettle.

Possessed
The role of the toaster in the kitchen is to turn bread into toast. A functioning toaster allows you to adjust the type of toast you wish by changing the dial. This demonic toaster functions normally and then at that moment when you have just got the baby to sleep and fancy a quick slice of warm toast the poltergeist decides that it's going to jam on the timer and turn your nice 5 on the toast chart to a coal chilling 15 plus. You only notice as the smoke billows out and too late to stop every smoke alarm in the house from activating. No toast and no sleeping baby. The gremlins also strike when the shops are all closed and you have one slice of bread and a heel left. Scraping the charcoaled remains in a desperate attempt to find something edible this possessed device should be avoided at all costs. If the timer stuck all the time it would be more manageable and at least predictable BUT it picks its moments. Seriously though its unsafe and poor quality.
