Brother Printer TN720 Toner Cartridge Black

"Stock" TN720 in my Brother HL-5470DW lasted for 3,627 copies (and actually would have probably gone to nearly 3,750'ish...but, started to fade). The printer will kick out a message to replace at 2,536 copies - - IGNORE THAT MESSAGE!!! Take the advice of the other reviewers and place electrical tape over both ends of the optical sensor port on both sides of the toner holder - - and voila - - 1,000+ more copies.This toner, and printer, are absolutely perfect!!! Best home office printer investment I ever made. Got the printer on sale at Staples in Nov 2013 for $149.00, and spent only $51.00 in 14mos on toner. Now, of course, if you run 3000 copies a month thru your printer, well then you will spend more on toner. But, I have a large family - and we use on average 250 copies a month - - so, add that up on a ink jet - and you will be replacing ink jet cartridges way more often (like I use to). I still have my color ink jet (for xerox copies and scanning - and the occasional color copy), but the laser jet is the way to go.

The Brother TN-720 printer cartridges resembles other Brother laser printer cartridges in having a clear viewport on the right side of the toner cartridge (the part that lifts out of the drum unit). A light shines through that porthole to estimate when the toner is low. Usually when your printer demands that you change your print cartridge and spend more money on Brother products, the print quality is still fine, as you still have a reserve amount of toner left in the cartridge. Simply cover up the viewport with a piece of opaque tape, put the printer cartridge back in the printer, and resume printing. Schedule buying a new print cartridge for when the pages you are printing out really look like they are missing toner.UPDATE: Shopping for replacement toner cartridges on the Amazon.com website now leads to a user interface that suggests cartridges for you if you put in the model number of your printer. But for my MFC-8710DW, Amazon didn't even list the high-capacity cartridge, the TN-750, as a choice for that printer. That is a mistake. I just recently (early 2014) bought another TN-720 when I could have bought a TN-750, and ended up putting the low-capacity cartridge to replace the high-capacity cartridge. So don't forget, your printer manual may tell you that your printer can use the high-capacity cartridge, and you should believe that rather than believe Amazon's compatibility check when ordering printer cartridges.

It's cheap and it lasts a long time. I use it at my family's small business, and while we are not printing at a high volume by any means, I figure we print around 20-40 sheets a day, and it lasted 8 months before I needed to change it. The printer had the "Low Toner" and then "Replace Toner" message at about 6 months, but I put colored tape over the sensor and it worked perfectly fine for nearly 2 months, then in the last couple weeks of its use, it started to have a black line on one side of the sheets every once in a while, but it wasn't enough for me to want to change it still. I ordered another one from Amazon at about 7 months, just to ensure I'd have one when needed, and it sat on the shelf for a month before I finally put it in.Anyways, all in all, great value.

As part of the overall printer experience, the toner cartridge is the thing you deal with the most. There is an internal page counter which indicates that the cartridge is producing the stated number of pages (plus or minus a few - it depends when you finally replace it). Quality remains high until the end, which is how you know its the end. This whole printer replaced a heavy duty HP and it was an excellent decision.

Nothing special. Works just like the ones you can buy in the stores for the same price. Only good thing was i didnt have to go to the store to get it. so for this 4 stars. Will buy again unless im going to the store.

Occasionally I need to print on the back of a pre-printed page, and this printer is designed so you must pull out the paper tray in order to insert the page that you want to print on. A bit of a pain but the cost/quality of this printer makes up for it.

I had to print almost a hundred pages of documents before the ink darkened up to the color it was supposed to be. Definitely worth the hassle though for the price. I will order more.

I trust amazon for shipping and quality. I get free shipping on this item. I use only Brother toner as the manual of my laser printer says the printer can detect if you use a non brother toner and then the parts are not guaranteed to work properly if you don't use brother toner so i baby my printer and print alot and i buy alot of this toner. Buy with confidence from amazon.

This is much more expensive than generic replacement cartridges. But, it works well, and is genuine.

I like these cause they last with cartridge small ink one I was always replacing them..with these cartridge I don’t but keep in mind it’s only Black...but that’s ok with me

Excellent print quality. Very important to clean the wires as recommended in the installation instructions. Initially there was a grey line being printed on left hand side of each sheet but this problem was resolved by repeating the cleaning of the wires.
