Since 1856, Orvis has been making warm and handsome clothing with the outdoors in mind. Innovative details join together with traditional styling in this, the distinctive and classic Orvis Heritage Field Coat. Its forebears hang in a thousand closets and have seen lifetimes in the field. Now, Orvis has brought this classic field coat back with subtle updates to become the favorite of yet another generation. This jacket’s dry-waxed cotton canvas turns away briars and repels rain. It features spacious and low-profile lower bellows pockets with snap-closure pocket flaps as well as two upper slash handwarmer pockets. Gusseted underarm panels with grommets provide ample ventilation. A hunting jacket with style, it’s got shooting patches on both shoulders and reinforced elbow patches for years of heavy use. Adjustable button cuffs with corduroy trim and a corduroy collar are a nice touch. Includes a rear-entry waterproof game bag with two side zips and interior lining. Bi-swing back for comfort and a full range of motion. Keep out the brisk wind and rain with a full zip front complete with button-closed storm flap. Two interior pockets to keep your valuables close to your body. Pure cotton, classic fit.

Travel incognito...
This is a simple, durable jacket that will allow you to slip past the notice of most people while traveling the world. You don't want to look like an American. Things are cheaper, food is better (sans spit?), less panhandlers, fewer scammers. You can pass as a country hick in many european countries wearing this, just keep your mouth shut. Travel on.

Size
This is a great cool weather jacket for "town and country," as they say. This is my second. I expect to get the same utility and long wear as my previous one.A note about size: at 5'10", 160 lbs, medium is my size. The jacket fits 'perfectly' by all measurements - so perfectly that there is no room to wear a sweater underneath. If you're ok with that, then you can't do better in this price range than this jacket.

Fits as expected, Excellent Jacket
I am 5'10'' 210 and bought an xl, fits perfect with room for sweater or hoodie underneath. Will update after hunting seasonTwo years later since my review. This Jacket has proved to be one of my favorites, it covers my butt all the way and holds out the wind as good as any nylon products. I have used it in weather down to 15 degrees and with a pair or long under ware and a shirt it keeps me very warm, if you were active you would not need the long underware. It still looks the same as the day i bought it, you have to follow the instructions and not try to dry clean it or wash it at home. I have washed it down with a liquid detergent, rinsed it out and let it hang dry outside or in your garage. I plan on handing this one down to one of my son in laws that go hunting with me.

Very nice jacket. My only issue is that it's made in China. The color is a dark brown and not Olive. For me it's not a issue but for others it might be.

Nice jacket but...
After reading other reviews I was confident this would be a perfect replacement for a field coat I’ve had for years but is now totally worn out. I live in Western Maryland where the weather from October thru April ranges from chilly to frigid, so the ability to layer is important to being comfortable when outdoors. I’m 6’3” and 235# and my old field coat is an XL and fits great, so I figured buying an XL would be good. Nope - right out of the box it was obvious this coat was too small. It’s very high quality - well made from nice materials. Just a half size smaller (and shorter) than the size chart and reviews suggest. It’s not really insulated, thus requiring layering to handle cooler temps, so being a bit loose is essential. I’m going to order an XXL and see how that works...

runs big
This coat is very wide and swallowed my husband (who is 6'2" tall/ 230 lbs) whole! He normally wears XL in men's jackets/coats, but this in XL was enormous! We must have weird monitor settings because we both missed that this coat has a hot pink lining - very bright and unexpected. It also has weidly placed pockets... especially one huge zippered one in the back. The coat appears to be well-made, just not exactly what we were looking for, so we ended up returning it.

Nice coat, small pocket openings
Nice overall field coat. Only complaint is that the front pocket openings are slightly too small to allow easy access to a box of shells. Pockets are large enough to hold the shells, but the openings do not expand sufficiently to get gloves hands in easily.

Top Notch Field Jacket
This is a top notch mid length jacket that works well in the field. The oversized pockets, the one handed snaps on the pockets, and being wind-proof and water proof only adds to its versatility. I love it . . . bgs.
