I've discovered a way to use them not for what they were intended to be used but in gardening. They work great for pinching out weeds and grass between patio blocks where you can't spray with RoundUp. You can reach down and most of the time grab the root and twist and pull it right out.

Inexpensive. These are pretty nice to use when soldering or holding small parts. But, they are not as well finished as the medical instruments that they resemble. I compared them with a real polished stainless steel pair from a hospital and noticed that not only is the surface dull in comparison, but the jaws to not meet as perfectly as the "real" ones. It is as if the ridges meant to grip items in the jaws were cut exactly the same on both sides. This causes the peaks to collide instead of fitting into the valleys on the other side. They are okay, but not great.In the picture, the item on the left is the one recently purchased. The one on the right is the medical version. As you can probably tell, the teeth don't meet the same way in the one on the left. Also, you can see the finish difference.

I got these for fishing when a fish swallows your hook deep these help you retrieve the hook without injuring and potentially killing the fish. I think every angler should have a pair of these in their tacklebox.

I use these to open the safety seal on food and med items due to arthritis in the hands. They do do the job, but these are not as well-made as true surgical hemostats that I used in the past. They are difficult to lock and unlock.
