The Christian History Devotional: 365 Readings and Prayers to Deepen and Inspire Your Faith

I enjoyed reading the short bios of Christians throughout the ages but was disappointed at the unbalanced approach that ignored many of the women of faith. Reading this book, one gets the feeling that with a few exceptions, men are the only Christian heroes. Even some of the entries that started out being about women shifted to shine the light on men in their lives. There are other biases as well. I was especially disappointed in this quote, “France was not always the land of culture, good food, and men afraid to fight.” Culture and good food are indeed parts of the French society, but “men afraid to fight?” That statement is mean, unfair, and unnecessary in the point the author wanted to make.

We have enjoyed digging into 2K years of Christian history as a family through this daily devotional. UNFORTUNATELY, the publisher made a HUGE misprint mistake. From mid-November through mid-December, all of the devotions are replaced with a repeated chunk from mid-August through mid-September. As we had read the devotions the first time through (back in August and September) we put the book aside for a month and read a different devotional during that time. Overall, we are pleased with this daily devotional. We are learning a lot about details of church history (and world history) that we did not know before. Our boys are ages 18,15, and 11. These are appropriate devotions for this age group through adults. It would not be appropriate for a younger crowd.

I used it as a devotional in 2019. The history was interesting; some I knew; most I did not know. It was interesting because we tend to forget [relevant] history over time. It was interesting to see some history repeat itself; just a different setting. Overall I viewed it as more history than devotional; but glad I read it in 2019.

History has never been my favorite subject, but I love this book! Every day tells of a person or event from the annals of Christianity. There are many names and occasions that are familiar and plenty of "new" tidbits to inspire and encourage and amaze. Though I won't remember the dates, knowing that my Kindle lets me "Search" the book and find a name or event, this book will be a treasure long after I've finished out the year. Yay for history!

It is a very different devotional which is refreshing. My wife and I read it with our son every day. It allows us to teach him history and be encouraged in our faith at the same time. The copy that we got did have a printing error (copied a whole month over in the wrong spot) so my wife emailed the publisher and tehy sent us a new copy free of charge! We would recommend this devotional for all believers, even if you dont like history.

I am so enjoying this devotional and the great history of Christianity that has turned the world upside down! Yes, many times throughout history Christians have faced great struggles, but thankfully, there have always been brave followers that passed through the waters for the sake of the Gospel. It is Christ that we can see in them which should encourage us to continue likewise.

This book was exciting for me because it made church history alive by examining the lives of actual people and connecting them to specific dates. Many of them were people I'd never heard of, and I appreciate the insight given.

Still reading since it has been less than a year since I purchased this book. Am enjoying the little glimpses into the lives of so many great Christians. I don't think I would recommend it as a stand alone devotional but as a bonus daily reading I find it encouraging in my daily walk with Jesus.

As it is a devotional I have not read the whole book but am very happy with it so far, as it adds spiritual truths to historical fact, a winner for me

Bought this for a friend who was really pleased with it and would recommend it.
