Treasures in Exile
This is one of the best books I’ve read recently, and has more twists and turns than an Alpine switch-back! You have no clue what’s going to happen until the last half dozen chapters, then hang on for a wild ride! And rest assured, each evil doer gets his comeuppance in a unique way!

Great till the end
I'm enjoying this series. The author does a great job with the characters and the details. (We get to see behind the scenes at estate sales.)I've always liked Ty, and he shines in this book. I think I'm going to like Donna too. The author develops her characters beyond the stereotypes of young black men and Jersey girls. I like Sean and Audrey, too, but their relationship is in the background here. The plot was a problem for me in this book. It starts slowly, with Audrey moving around the youth center talking to various people the reader will need to remember. It picks up with a death and estate sales for Audrey to bid on. We now have three new families to learn about, and they're all connected somehow. The connections were really hard for me to follow. As the story continues, we have multiple crimes to solve. When I reached the chapter beginning with Ty's disappearance, I was surprised at how much I was enjoying the story. It was becoming unputdownable.But. But all of a sudden, we get to the last few chapters. This is where the mystery is supposed to be solved, the murderer (and motive) revealed, and all the clues explained. Normally the author shows us these answers, often with a twist and drama. Not here. First one character explains a lot of things to Audrey, and in the last few chapters another character explains the rest of it. Yeah, it's in dialogue, but it might as well be a description of the plot in a book report. But not everything is explained. Suddenly Ty and Donna drop out of sight, with Ty's reunion with his father and Donna's tension with her husband never mentioned again. In fact, Ty and Donna don't even appear again after the Tate sale. And a reason is provided for Maybelle taking over the bookkeeping and errands from Vareena in 1964, but it doesn't make sense to me.So five stars for the characters and details and three stars for the plot.

Good read
Started off with a good premise. Some nice twists. But by the , it had just gotten too convoluted to be believable.

very captivating story. I enjoyed every bit of it
The story pulls several cultures together; white, black, Hispanic, old , young, rich, poor. It was well told and captivating. Even though it was #5 in a series, I was able to read it as a stand alone novel.

Down to earth family history
What is discovered when the two very elderly former residents of "the treasure house" pass away in close succession is unbelievably realistic and intrinsically revealing. No amount of guesswork would have revealed the tangled family lives of those who were associated with the house. Unbelievable histories of the three different families, which were involved, comes to life. Intriguing and beguiling reading which is so heartfelt and revealing it draws readers into a family relationship like no other.
