I was looking for a pattern for a Rus reenactment persona that had the side opening shirt. Exactly what I needed for our "Fiddler on the Roof" production, the Russians!

This is the second time I've bought this pattern. The first just got too battered to use!One of the great things about this pattern is the ability to size the shirt without having to modify the pattern itself. My client was 6"4" with a 34" chest. No problem! Cut the shirt body for small + 3" extra length, the sleeves for XL (and then some!) Rather than cut the pattern itself, I traced everything out on pattern vellum, and marked it with the client's name and date.

Finished products really look Russian. Used heavy khaki cotton and added shoulder boards to clothe soldiers. Used center opening and cord laces with natural cotton gauze for Tevya's undershirt.
