A Fantastic Documentary - Must Watch for a Seuss Enthusiast
I first saw this family biography as a child when I was 4 and when the VHS was released my mom bought it for me and my sister to watch. I loved to watch it over and over again because of how fun it was with the singing and cartoons and the great set recreations of the Seuss books. It really started me off becoming fascinated by the life of Ted Geisel. I love to read as much as I can about him today and love to buy and read the books about his artwork and political cartoons. I believe that I owe my appreciation of the man behind the books to this movie. Over the years the VHS had gotten misplaced or lost so when I found that there was a DVD release from amazon I had to have it. Watching In Search of Dr. Seuss as a 21 years old, I must say it holds up very well and it's still as informative and engaging as it was when I saw it as a child.I saw it as a 4 year old when it aired but when I re-watched it so many times, I retained a surprising amount about what this movie teaches about him at a young age. I learned about how he created his ideas and what certain stories like Yertle the Turtle and the Sneetches were inspired from.I think what made this documentary most special to me was the actors they had in it. Kathy Najimy and Matt Frewer (as the Cat in the Hat) were both really well cast here and since we mainly follow them through. Both seemed to be really enthusiastic and energetic in their roles and even when they got to parts that were either very heavy subject manner or heavy on information they still make it fun and interesting but also not too hard for children to understand. In fact I get the impression that all the actors involved had a deep respect for the work of Dr. Seuss. And speaking of heavy subject matter, I have to applaud In Search of Dr. Seuss for tackling topics from Ted Geisel's life that you might not expect a kids' movie to point out, such as his work before and during World War 2, they handled it very well and I like that the DVD comes with the classic short Private Snafu as an extra. It was a nice inclusion and it's always been one of my favorite wartime cartoons since it was aimed at soldiers and made its point of keeping your confidential information private important but also very humorous and witty.I'd recommend this for anyone who wants to know more about Ted Geisel and for parents whose children love to read or be read a Seuss story because this will definitely be a blast for them.

No kid or adult can live without this one.
In Search of Dr. Seuss Several reviewers have said this already, but I will say it too anyway. This is great for both kids and grown-ups. When I first heard of In Search of Dr. Seuss, it was on TNT in its heyday, and it was on a commercial break from Dr. Seuss' The Lorax and The Cat in the Hat, which someone recorded while they were on. I wanted to see it but never did. Then, about sixteen years later, the "technological 'miracle'" known as youtube came along and I ended up seeing it from top to bottom. Afterwards, I thought, "Why wait for the day it is taken off the web when you can get the DVD and pop it in anytime?" And that's what I did.The writers and producers behind the film brought together a great, near-perfect cast; all character actors, really good actors, and no show-offs. Sixteen years ago, I would NOT have recognized Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: TNG) as Sergeant Mulvaney, or Christopher Lloyd as Mr. Hunch. Though, it would have introduced Kathy Najimy as well as Matt Frewer, Russ Thompson from Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Of course, when I finally saw it for the first time, it was a thrill to see and hear Robin Williams read "The Cat in the Hat." Robin is not alone. Even Kathy Najimy brought (and brings) something to the reading of "The Sneetches" and "Horton Hatches the Egg." The one that really stuck (and sticks every time) is Yertle the Turtle. The set design was also impressive beyond words. It was just how Seuss's fictional world looked. The entire cast of Seuss characters, while being colorful and musical and living the stories they are written in, contribute to the telling of the life story of Ted Geisel himself. There were a lot of things about Geisel that I did not even know before I saw the movie. I am honestly amazed at how Geisel was able to channel all of his perspectives and surroundings times he was living in into his books. It is also amazing how I NEVER knew or appreciated the morals and values that were in Seuss's stories. They are still relevant to this very day. Kids today can read all the Hunger Games they want, but introduce them at an early age to "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," which is my favorite, or "Yertle the Turtle," and who knows? The only down-side is that there are no behind-the-scenes featurettes to show how the movie was made. Oh, well. It is the thought that counts, right? Not

An old school 90’s kid classic
A movie I recall from my youth. Came sealed and labeled as new. I’ve had this one pending in my cart for a while. Price finally dropped below $16. Has many amazing actors and actresses who were popular in the time the movie was released. Lots of talk about Hitler and the Germans so prepare yourself if watching with littles. DVD was in perfect condition.

Fun movie. I’m a major Dr
Fun movie. I’m a major Dr.Seuss fan and I had this movie years and years ago on VHS. Wanted my kids to see it so I purchased the DVD. They like it and I’m glad I ordered it although the quality isn’t great on a digital TV. I’d say it’s good 9 years an under as its a good balance of education, dr Seuss stories and general suessical nonsense. There is one sequence with footage of Hitler/WWII so if you’ll be watching with young kids, you might want to fast-forward. It’s not scary but younger kids seem confused by it. And if they aren’t your kids, maybe you don’t want to open that can of worms? Idk.

One of my favorites.
Fun special. This is one of my favorite specials on Dr Seuss - entertaining and educational. Tells star studded quick versions of all of the classic stories with everyone from Patrick Stewart to Robin Williams. In addition gives a solid run through of his life even touching on the WWII movies.

So fun, so good!
It's a nice story, beautifully told, Dr. Seuss was an extraordinary person and I'm happy I've learnt something more about him. And then you have robin Williams telling the story of the Cat in the Hat. And that's worth the whole movie anyway...
