A Great Way to Spend an Afternoon
I enjoyed this book. It was a quick, Sunday afternoon read with a steady plot and likeable characters. I was afraid there was going to be a cliffhanger at the end. Thankfully, there wasn't.Philomena and her brother, Giles, are in London for the season. Philomena needs to marry before Giles dies. He is gravely ill with scarlet fever and time is of the essence. This isn't going to be such an easy task, though. Philomena is a burn victim and even though it does not affect her face, she is scarred beneath her clothing. It's left her with a self-esteem problem, making her avoid perspective suitors from the ton. It's okay. They were toads anyway. At a party, she and Giles decide to go get some air. Giles is sidetracked and Philomena goes outside by herself. She runs into a man who thinks he knows her and, as Bradford Knightely is kissing her, Giles discovers them and wants either satisfaction or marriage.Bradford knew then that he'd just kissed his long lost love and without a lot of debate, tells Giles he will marry Philomena. Sounds simple enough, right? It isn't. It never is.The conflict wasn't overbearing in the story, even though it could have been a much longer novel had it been. As mentioned above, I was worried there was going to be a cliffhanger. I guess that could mean the ending was a bit abrupt. I didn't think it was at all. Everything was paced just right. This was a great way to spend an afternoon.

LOVE TESTED BY FIRE!
Because her brother Giles is dying, Miss Philomena Pomfrett agrees to a season to find a husband. The two are all that is left of their family. A fire claimed their parents and left "Phil" badly scarred. To support her, Giles joined the military and left Phil with an aunt, who passed away. Coming home, a victim of Scarlet Fever, Giles days are numbered - the reason for the rush to see his beloved sister settled.Bradford, the new Viscount Kinglsey, just returned from the Caribbean with his sister after 3 years. At the Wimpleton ball, he wanders in the garden and does not recognize Phil, his first and only love, in the dark. He was told the whole family perished in the fire. Giles stumbles upon them in an embrace and demands a duel or marriage. Although she never stopped loving Bradford, Phil is determined not to marry the man who deserted her in her time of need. She does not want his sympathy and is certain her hideous scars will repulse Bradford. Then Giles collapses and the adventures begin - can these two young lovers recapture their devotion? Is their love true and able to weather such obstacles? Can Phil ignore the dying wish of her beloved brother? A tender story of the depth of love and how it can overcome any adversity!

This is a very well written novella perfect for those who do not have time to sink into a full length novel but still desire a good plot and enjoyable characters. It is well worth the digital price. The print price seems excessive however for a novella. How I rate:1-Could not finish and deleted from my library2-Did not enjoy reading3-A solid enjoyable read4-A wonderful reading experience5-An outstanding reading experience

Scrumptious!
I swear Collette Cameron nearly gave me a fit of the vapours with HER SCANDALOUS WISH! Philomena Pomfrett must marry as quickly as possible; her brother Giles has a fragile heart which could give out any day, and they are almost out of funds. Things look grim as Philomena was severely burned in a fire years before, where her parents died. The love of her life, Bradford, now Viscount Kingsley, vanished; she never heard from him, and Philomena’s heart was shattered. And so, trying to choose the less repulsive of her present suitors, who should be attending the Wimpleton’s ball, but Bradford. This novella is grandiose! The story is extremely complex and fabulously compelling, there are plot twists every few pages, nothing happened the way I expected; at some places, I thought my heart would break. And what about the sumptuous, luminous, exquisite prose! Ms. Cameron is a wordsmith beyond compare! Every word is perfectly chosen, everything absolutely in context, the dialogues are glorious, there are a few quite humorous touches! Sublime!I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Another brilliant book in this series
This is another brilliantly crafted book in this second chance series. All the characters are beautifully portrayed, and have the strength of character to overcome their misgivings to find happiness.

Emotionally full filling story
The emotion in this novella is fully pledged to the plight of the lack of medical knowledge in this era as well as a mean jackass that preferred to kill or hurt people rather than to love and forgive. I loved the brother's intention to take care of his sister and ensure that she would be taken care of after his death - what a beautiful sentiment for a brother to have knowing that he would die soon. The love that Bradford and Philomena was exquisite too. Great novella - beautifully written - great characters.

Great historical romance
I loved this book. People forced he past forced Philomena and Bradford apart and years have passed. Each has cherished memories of the other, but when they meet again everything's changed. Can they find love the second time around? As a lover of historical romance, I'd say this is one not to miss
