I chose this sword as much for function as well as a display piece. I've used a katana very effectively in the past for chopping down banana trees and other soft plants, and I also don't mind the dramatic effect of having one around for chasing away miscreants from my property.My old katana was about equal parts gimmick and real sword, and eventually after some hard use the blade flew away from the handle in mid swing since it wasn't full tang. Even though I eventually glued it back together, I still felt it's not 100 percent reliable, so I was quite interested to see if this sword would be practical for me.I like that this sword has a full tang, I also love the blue color and design, and the sword seems to have a good weight and balance to it. This sword certainly looked nice to me in the product pics, but unfortunately mine was lacking in quality in a few details.When I was first examining it I noticed the paint on the blade was already scratched before I opened it, and also the scabbard's decorative cover stitching was coming apart at the top just under the hilt, as seen in the last two pics.As has been noted, these come oiled from the factory to protect the metal from rusting. Mine also had grit and grime on it, but it was easy enough to just wipe it down with a damp cloth.Overall, I'm still satisfied that this sword can function well enough for my purposes. Very nice sword. This is my 3rd samurai sword and this looks just as good as my others. I love collecting knives and swords. Under the description it does state that this is a full tang. I got this as a collectors piece so I don’t plan on using it all but with it being a full tang you shouldn’t have to worry about it breaking if you hit sand bags or anything. The guard looks nice but the lion does have some flaws. The detail is just not that great with the lion on the guard and this is the sole reasoning behind my 4 stars. It has nothing to do with the quality as I feel this sword for the price point is really good quality. The hilt is nice and comfortable to hold. It does have a nice look. The pommel also looks really nice. The blade does have a sharp edge and will cut if your not careful. The description says that the blade is damascus steel which doesn’t have that look to it. Usually Damascus has a certain type of look to it which I don’t see with this blade. Either way for this price point you get a really nice sword. For this price I would definitely recommend getting.

This is a good looking sword, the case is solid and the design looks really good, it has a tight fit around the hilt of the sword. The sword is a full tang sword so there shouldn't be a worry of it breaking at the hilt. The design of the sword also looks great, the edging is consistent and has a nice pattern up and down the blade. This feels good in the hands, with the size, definitely a two handed sword, not only one. When I pulled the sword out of the case, the blade was really oily and although the edge looks really nice as far as the design goes, it isn't very sharp which is a little disappointing. This will be more of a design piece in my office though, so the lack of a sharp edge isn't too much of an issue. I like the feel of this in my hands, it feels comfortable.

It will add cool decorative value to any "man cave' or study.But this is not merely a 'wall hanger" this sword is actually razor sharp- be very careful when handling!I don't see damascus steel but this is instead San mai and you can see the hamon or forging line clearly.The work on this sword is beautiful, although the lion on the guard could be better.

Beautiful craftsmanship. A quality blade that is also useful. Good weight and length. Very lovely wrapping on the handle. Comfortable to grip. Decorated with a lovely pattern and colors. Looks great on the wall as gorgeous decor or as a tool for swordsmanship practice. Also very practical as a weapon in an emergency. Secure wrapping. A unique gift idea. Easy to maintain and keep the blade sharp.

The media could not be loaded.  This sword is sure to impress. It looks good and has a nice balanced weight to it. It is very sharp, but ready to use or display. The pattern and art work makes this an exceptional talking piece for on display.Trust you found this review honest and helpful:-)
