A nice replacement for my previous ASUS
I purchased this device to replace my ailing ASUS laptop. It's for personal use and thus far I'm pleased with its performance. The only drawback is that it has no optical drive. I purchased an external drive which solves that issue but means that I need to carry around another piece of hardware.

Great keyboard, big screen
After a few weeks of use, I am still happy with my Asus VivoBook. I like the illuminated keyboard, and love the included numeric pad, the ample screen and the many usb ports. My main disappointments are (1) lack of hardware to use Windows Hello via fingerprint scanner and/or face recognition, while those features were touted in some of the advertisement for the laptop; and (2) only one USB 3 ports, while the others are much slower when connected to an external disks. The battery is OK but not outstanding. But overall, I think it is a good value for its price.

I purchased 2 other Asus laptops from Amazon that are fine, but this one is defective.
This is the 3rd Asus laptop I have ordered. The others were fine, but this one has a problem with the keyboard. When you start typing, a random letter will start repeating infinitely. This makes the entire computer unusable. For the first time, I had to get to an Amazon supervisor to get the return correctly figured out even though I am a Prime member and never had a problem before. With this return, no option to take it to UPS or the Amazon Return Center (both near me) was given. Only, a print label, pay postage option which is a real slap in the face for a defective product. Amazon has always had the best return policy, but it seems they now want Best Buy and Wal-Mart to get some of their business so they are starting to make it difficult to return defective items...:(

Slightly customized Asus X512JA
Seller should make it clear that this is an Asus X512JA with altered memory and drive configuration. 12GB memory is good... the choice of 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD is an odd one. 5400RPM drives are completely useless once you've been exposed to PCIe-based SSDs. Would have preferred a larger SSD and no spinning disk. I've already stripped the HDD and will replace with a SATA SSD when I have the chance. In terms of performance the laptop is more than enough for my kids to do homework on, which is all I needed.
