The Nest Newlywed Handbook: An Owner's Manual for Modern Married Life

I bought this after I got married thinking I was missing out on something being a newlywed and adapting so well. Well, I wasn't I just learned to do everything from the get go! (ie: Living with a significant other, shared bank accounts, shared insurance, sharing money, etc) We were engaged 3 years before we got married and living together after 3 months. We learned everything by just living. BUT if you're a new couple and are in a serious relationship... this would still be PERFECT to get. It's not really 'newlywed' it's really just about joining your lives together, which you can do married or unmarried.I recently gave mine to my brother-in-law's girlfriend (now fiance)... but really had nothing to do with them being engaged. She and him are having a baby and need to know how to mesh their lives together in a serious manner! So this is awesome. It covers the basics of anything and everything regarding making your lives eachothers OR keeping them separate in some areas. It's really just showing you options and what you can do for this or that.Also goes over marital problems and working through them. Also in law issues. It's a really great guide.If you're one of those people who kinda just have relationships that 'work' and you don't have to try at like anything... then this book is just knowledge you already know. But if you are also the person who tries to explain your easy meshing of life to your friends and they seem so overwhelmed by what you're saying... buy this book for them. It'll save you time and frustration trying to explain the pros and cons of adult life meshing. Lol.Really useful book... if you need it!

I had bought this for a bridal shower, but when I purchased it, I decided to take a gander through its pages. The order of the book is very logical and easy to follow, as it addresses problems that arise within the first few months of a marriage and then dives into deeper issues that arise much later. When I gave it to the future bride, she was so intrigued by the book that she read it on the car ride to lunch, throughout lunch, on the car ride home, and at home until she had reached the back cover. It even includes some checklists that newlyweds can physically check off when each task is completed. I was very pleased with how my friend was so excited to receive and read the book as I was a bit hesitant in buying the physical book rather than the kindle version. I highly recommend this book to those brides who enjoy reading physical books and are willing to work hard on their marriage even before their wedding day.

Love this book- I am a subscriber to 'The Nest' web-site and when I found this book for sale, I bought one for myself. As a woman who is in the midst of her own wedding planning and has 6 weddings to attend this summer alone, I thought it would make a very nice compliment to a wedding gift or as a bridal shower gift. I tucked the envelope of cash into the inside cover to make the cash wedding gift a little more personal. Tons of great tips for after all the craziness of the wedding is over and the reality of building a future together sinks in. My girlfriend said she took it with her on the plane to their honeymoon and loved it, and her husband appreciated it too. There are so many wedding guides and planners, but not many practical books for AFTER the big day! Great tips on money merging, decorating for BOTH your tastes, in-laws, etc., and it is modern and well designed. Great gift, I bought 6!

There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about the book. It covered pretty much everything. I guess if I had to say something it would be to allow more room in certain areas to give information. Other than that I recommend this book to all newlyweds or engaged couples living together. It’s so important that you both have access to all that information and that you have the personal information on each other. Emergencies happen and with this book you’ll have everything you need to fill out forms and such. Also, if worse comes to worse and the marriage doesn’t work out there’s record of who gets what. The book covers everything. Great great book!

This book is the perfect way to tackle many touchy subjects for the newlywed. Hopefully they have discussed all of them, but just in case this book makes it easy than ironing out where you (as a newlywed couple) are going to spend the Christmas holidays on Dec 23rd. It is also an neutral way to bring up delicate subjects that you would LIKE to discuss, but feel a bit "eeeehhh" about such as the different way you and your new husband view and spend money (MUCH more delicate than sex). Hopefully you have had some pre-marital counseling, but even with it there is always some item popping up. So there are TONS of books about how to get married, but not so many about how to survive your first year of marriage (which is really the more important part, right?). This book is great for understanding all the different aspects of being married - from inlaws to chores to sex, this book covers it all and gives you great advice. I like that the chapters are really stand alone too so you can read them when it comes up. There are also worksheets at the end to help you and your spouse figure things out together. I would recommend this book for newlyweds! It isn't super deep, but it covers a lot of surface area.

If you've just got engaged or are just adjusting to being a newlywed or are looking for an awesome wedding gift, this is the best reading material! It covers many topics from money, home, friends and socializing, the in-laws, sex, kids and how to make it all work. It even has some handy worksheets! It's a great reference that my husband and I pop open a lot!
