Great book
I picked this up on a lark. Started reading and ended up not putting it down until it was done. Needs editing as items repeat.

Good read... not a necessary purchase...
Very informative and I appreciate the perspective coming from a female- she also includes aspects for males as well. Honestly, it’s a good quick read but, definitely not necessary to buy even if you’re going in. She basically talks about things you could just ask someone fresh out of Boot Camp, active military or a Veteran; which shouldn’t be hard if you are actively going to your recruiter station and participating weekly as a polee. Also the main thing to be successful in the Marine Corps- KNOW YOUR GENERAL ORDERS, Riflemen’s creed and some of the Battles/Wars Marines have participated in and you’ll have the advantage at boot camp. Hope this helps!

Great Overview of What to Expect
I bought this book for my son the Poolee, but read it myself so I had a better idea of the challenges he'll be dealt. This was an honest, quick and easy read from the eyes of a female Recruit at Paris Island. Although my son will be at San Diego, I believe this book does a great job breaking down and explaining the different aspects of Boot Camp, what to expect, and how to prepare. The book could've used an editor before publication, but I'd recommend the read to parents and poolees alike. Whether my son chooses to read and prepare himself prior to leaving is a different story :D

Not very helpful book
Not the most helpful book. I’ve got most of the information from a recruiter prior to reading this book and info online. The book is opinion tainted in its opening. It’s a good resource for marking the events planned at bootcamp. Other than that, I didn’t find much value to reading it

A Tale of Two Ratings
With a son who just arrived on Parris Island, the information contained in this book was both enlightening and very valuable to me as a parent. However, the quality of the book with regard to editing was very poor. I don't know if this was written as a paperback and then converted to Kindle or written directly for the Kindle, but there were entire paragraphs that were duplicated, paragraphs that seemed to have been plopped down in the middle of another stream of thought, very disappointing considering that the author is a professional. It is a quick read and packed with good information. If you can slog through the editing frustrations, go for it. What the book provides in information outweighs the frustration of reading it.

Amazing!
I read the book in one setting and I have to say, I loved it! I’m wanting to join the Marines, and be in their reserves, so I’ve been researching and starting to train my body and mind for them. If you are looking to join, read this!!

Very good book to provide a Marine recruit a picture of life in boot camp
Bought it for a friend's son who was about to enter Marine Boot Camp. Which I did way back in 1952. As a Marine who served 25 years active I believe this book is very helpful in orienting someone about what to expect during training at Parris Island or San Diego.
