Don't buy
Mostly wasted space. Instead of actually providing you with new information, every chapter is littered with paragraphs that are repeated verbatim. Many chapters begin with a paragraph explaining how some of the following information may cause you emotional harm and how to mitigate it. This same paragraph is repeated again and again each chapter, clearly an attempt to fill out a very short book and make it appear longer. Furthermore, the book apparently has some online features, which may be useful if the book didn't re-write the instructions again and again to fill space.

Perfectionism
This is more a how-to book with structured outlines, etc. Not what I expected - I though it would have been more in a story-telling format.,

Great Resource For Letting Go of Perfectionism
This book provides a straightforward and clear description of the four types of perfectionism: Not Enough, Creative Block, Control, and Inner Critic. It also describes the underlying mostly fear-based motivations that give rise to perfectionism. The author provides a clear roadmap of how to identify and work through these fears and develop more ease in life. Also covered is how to relate to and support someone close to you who is a perfectionist. What I impressed me were the concepts of higher accomplishment, establishing an Inner Champion to assuage the Inner Critic, and how to develop a capacity for ease. In relations to this the author references the Pattern System he has created and if you're interested in taking this topic further its definitely worth reviewing. What makes this book (and others in the series) standout from similar material by other authors is the user-friendly free online workbook that accompanies the book. Completing the online questionnaires/worksheets and listening to the guided meditations provides a significantly more interactive experience than completing a hard copy version. This results in creating a much more integrated learning experience. An added benefit of the online workbook is the ability to track progress with one or more issues over time. All in all the flow and content of the book, online workbook, and community makes this a great resource for exploring perfectionistic influences and I can highly recommend it.

Cool use of technology along with a book!
This book is very helpful in dealing with perfectionism. Jay Earley has done a thorough analysis of common causes and effects of perfectionism, and he helps us apply Inner Family System techniques to this common problem. Then he helps us to design ways to overcome the problem, as well as suggesting how to practice new behaviors. The thing that really impressed me was the online workbook, which is free when you buy the book. I hate writing in books, but here you can just go to a website and answer questions, which will then lead to the next phase of the "treatment". The workbook questions helped me sort out all the different causes and difficulties much better than just reading the text. I would recommend doing them together. In my case I was reading on a Kindle, so it was seamless together. The other great use of technology is a new online social site where you can find people who are also reading this book. These people will help reinforce your practice of the steps in the book. I haven't tried this yet, and I think it's just starting, but it's a great idea.I'm impressed that this technology is being used to its fullest. I hope there will be more "interactive books" like this!

Letting Go of Perfectionism
I found the book very insightful as an entry level book into working with patterns and with the IFS approach - in other words, someone who knows nothing about these approaches could use the book well enough as could someone with some experience. It gives good insight into causes and cures for the patterns and helps one to see how it works exactly, which is great and I think that the addition of the workbook and other online help is invaluable. Working through it slowly and methodically, using all the support that is linked to it would be a very helpful starting point for someone who is finding their perfectionism dysfunctional. I know a few people who are perfectionists who don't see it as a problem and therefore would never seek out a book like this or try to change their behaviour, so having an understanding of it helps from my perspective so that I don't trigger their patterns thereby enabling them to trigger mine. So all in all, it is a helpful and insightful book, easy to read and use and linked up with sufficient support.
