I really doubt it. I don't think it's sturdy enough. I tried chopping onion and I ended up mashing instead of any actual cutting.

Q: is this only for onions? Can I cut tomatoes, bell peppers and tomato too?

I think bell peppers would chop up great in this. But tomatoes might be too soft.

Q: Is it safe to place the chopper handle and stainless steel cover on the top rack of a dishwasher?

I put my pampered Chef accidentally in dishwasher hence this chopper. I would not recommend putting any part in dishwasher. It comes apart and cleans easily.

Q: Can you chop garlic with this ?

I suppose so. The cutting blades are at a distance that it might make it hard to get the garlic in small enough pieces. But if you keep chopping, it might work.
