Q: Should i buy a SW radio with SSB?

Depends on what you want to do with the radio. If you want to listen to hams, you need SSB capability to listen to virtually all voice communications and CW. SSB is also good for more narrow band listening to shortwave stations - using SSB is about same as synchronous detection with this radio, from my experience. It's sort of a generalization, but SSB capability typically involves more selectivity and sensitivity that may be lacking on a less expensive shortwave. Overall, this is a decent little radio for the money - lots of fun.

Q: What is the difference between the Tecun PL-600SLV and the PL-660 beside color. Is there any electrical background noise when using the AC?

PL-600 does NOT have air band whereas the PL-660 does.

Q: What is the battery life with Eneloops, on speaker and on headphones?

Eneloops are a Panasonic brand that is very good. In a "Project Farm" video they tested a bunch of different AA rechargeables and decided that LADDA was the best brand tested so those are what I am using. There characteristics are probably similar to Eneloops. Most headphones have a much higher impedance than speakers so your time is likely to be a lot longer with headphones than the built in speaker. When I am using the radio a lot (about an hour a day) the battery charge lasts more than a month. I have to recharge the batteries so infrequently that the event has not engaged my attention. Of course they always reach exhaustion when I am listening to something that is very interesting.

Q: is this silver metal --possibly stronger--or silver paint on plastic which could wear off?

i dont know about this specific radio but the tecsum model i have is silver plastic. been very durable, no sign of wear, no change in appearance over 2 years time so far.
