Subtle and sexy masculinity - a very contemporary eau de parfum from Lacoste...
The Match Point range is inspired by tennis - which is very appropriate for this brand as its founder Rene Lacoste was the world's best tennis player in 1926-27. A story about his captain having promised to buy him a crocodile leather suitcase in 1923 if he won his next match was taken up by the press. Though he lost, they nicknamed him 'The Crocodile' and Rene had a crocodile sewn on the white jacket he wore when he entered the tennis court - which is to this day the Lacoste logo.Lacoste was the first ever brand to feature a logo on its clothing following its launch in 1933 when it brought out a flexible, lightweight pique polo shirt. In the 1960s Lacoste expanded into perfumery and the logo features on this 50ml eau de parfum - which shouldn't be mistaken for the more affordable, lighter eau de toilette. The bottle is a perfect marriage of brand and concept. It's inspired by tennis - and indeed would be perfect for men who love the game - with its top a spin on a racquet handle and the concave base of the bottle representing the strike of the ball. The fragrance here is aromatic, woody and fresh - with a hint of citrus. But the patchouli heart note gives it a sensual finish. It is longer lasting than the eau de toilette and has greater depth.Though this has some of the characteristics of a contemporary fragrance and I tend to prefer more vintage scents, I actually like this and feel it would be appropriate for both younger as well as more mature men, whether they're sports fans or not. The price is what I'd expect for a good quality eau de parfum. This scent was only launched this month so it is very current. I like the depth of fragrance and the fact that it's reasonably long lasting. I also like its subtle and sexy masculinity. Worth trying if you're looking for a new, contemporary fragrance.

Match Point for nighttime...
I was surprised at first to see this Match Point by Lacoste listed as a new fragrance because I thought it was already available but then I realised this is the Eau de Parfum version of the existing Match Point Eau de Toilette. In theory the EDP version should be longer lasting (and usually more expensive) because it contains more of the expensive fragrance ingredients and this one does linger quite well. I can't make direct comparisons because I don't own the EDT version but this version dries down to a deep lingering fragrance that I really like, it's woody and sweet and quite modern and masculine without shouting about it. It won't be masculine enough for some men, there's a definite sweetness here and it avoids the leathery tobacco notes conventional men's fragrance favour. I'm less keen on the top notes when you first spray it, you get a big burst of citrus and pepper and to me it's a bit jarring with the base notes, but that fades away quite quickly and leaves a much better fragrance behind. The packaging and bottle are simple looking but with a few subtle references to tennis, the bottle cap has the look of dimpled grip-tape that's usually wrapped around racket handles and there's a dimple in the base of the bottle that resembles the impact of a tennis ball. The fragrance is more grown-up and characteristic than most athletic fragrances usually are and all the better for it. If you get to try it in-store before buying it don't be put off by the top notes which are a bit overpowering, give it five minutes and it mellows out to a really lovely aromatic and rich woody scent.

It's ok.
Smell not as strong as the sample I was sent. Could not smell it at all after a couple of hours.

Smells like a nice post-gym fragrance - a sporty smell
I am one mainly for woody and earthy smells when it comes to aftershaves, colognes, eau de toilettes etc and I am also a fan of Lacoste the brand so was happy to take the opportunity to try this Eau de Parfum. It claims to be woody with citrus notes but it is not such a delicate and deeply complex fragrance. Truth be told it has a whiff of an aqua scent, something you'd get in a tennis club changing room. It isn't complex, it doesn't have a lot of depth but it is 'fresh' and has a decent staying power. I've not been complemented and told I smell nice whilst wearing it so I tend to use it as a daily scent rather than a one for evenings out.I'd probably buy other fragrances before I bought this one for just a bit more money, when spending £50 on something, you want to be noticed and this is just a nice fragrance.

Stunning scent I shall keep for myself
In a week where tennis has been front page news, this perfume turned up. I'm not sure if it is aimed at men or women - and I don't care. It seemed to suit both me and my partner. But I liked it so much that I'm going to keep it for myself. It lasts all day, it's not overpowering and it has that wide open feel/smell to it. The whole package is a subtle take on tennis; from the racquet handle top to the shaded green of the glass, It is a very classy, understated design.I think it would grace a number of people, especially men in their 30s and 40s - but as I said earlier it would work on anyone. The reason I say older people is because this is a strident, in your face, teenage product. It's more subtle and mature than that.Love it.
