It broke from the base in the first week after installation.

Seems to work okay, but my base was dented and scratched when I unpacked it. The box was not damaged. Took me a couple of extra days to install because I had to repaint it.

Love having this option for my patio umbrellas. I have one that has one of the large bases holding it in my table but I got this one to put on the other corner of the deck where I will have a bistro-style high table and 2 chairs. Still have to install it but it comes with 4 hefty bolt-screws that will certainly keep it from moving. I could see using hefty rebar-style metal hooks to use for camping or BBQ's too.I agree with another reviewer that it would be nice to have a spacer for the bottom to help keep the umbrellas with thinner poles from tilting. I'll probably cut a piece of PVC pipe to help keep mine up straight.Other than that, really like this and can't wait to put it to use! If I have any issues I'll come back and update.

This is a strong base for installation on a patio. It comes with the hardware needed for installation and bits to change the size for the umbrella poles. It takes up a lot less space than a traditional umbrella base which is what I needed for our smaller sized patio. It's lasted all summer season and I have no doubt it will last many more seasons.

This umbrella stand is solidly made and should stand up to weather as well as any umbrella you put in it.As for the couple of issues I mention in my title: First, unless the pole of your umbrella is the largest side this stand takes (1-9/10" diameter), the base will put it at a slight angle when you tighten the holding knobs. The adapter sleeves hold the pole centered at the top of the base, but nothing holds the bottom end of the pole centered, so tightening the knob pushes it over at an angle. (And not tightening the knob would let it wobble.) This may or may not bug you. It kind of bugs me, so I think I'll come up with some kind of spacer to put onto the bottom of my umbrella pole to keep it centered at both ends, and hence straight. The other issue is with the mounting screws supplied with the base. As you can see in the picture, these are unthreaded for about the first 3/4". The base is only about 1/8" thick, so if you screw these into deck boards (typically about 1" thick) only a few of the threads will actually bite into wood. You may want to get different screws if you're attaching this to a deck.

Heavy gage steel. Mounting plate is thick and attaches well to deck. Much more secure and stable than weighted umbrella bases. Comes with adapter for different diameter umbrella tubes. Great for hot tubs or where space is limited.

In the past I had always used the heavy bases. Either solid metal or the ones you fill with water or sand. The problem with these is you always seem to bang into the base and they flip over easily with a little wind if you forget to close the umbrella. This thing eliminates that. So far it has been a great improvement. I bolted it into my deck and it is very strong. I really am impressed how good this works. I have a small round table that I put the umbrella through and it works great.
