Suspenseful page-turner
What an emotional read, but also a very eye-opening and mysterious read.Say Her Name highlights the many injustices of black women who have been kidnapped, gone missing or even worse and no justice is served.Eva is adopted, and even though she has felt the love of her adoptive parents, she has always been curious about her biological parents. When Eva's mom died, she was even more determined to find out about her birth mom. This is where the story becomes so much more. She quickly finds results about her biological father on a DNA test. Finding out about her mother becomes a mystery with a chain of events that leads to many questions, and Eva is keen on seeking all those answers.Say Her Name is well written, with many twists and turns. A cast of very interested and developed characters that will make you question who is trustworthy and who is not. It also leaves the reader with a social message that even though the events may have occurred years ago, the message is still relevant today.Reasons I enjoyed this book:Action-packed, Entertaining, Haunting, Original, Tragic, Twisted, Unpredictable, Wonderful characters

An okay read
There is an excellent message in this book. It leans too near the truth for a time past, not just in England. For me it came over at times as being a bit elementary. A few of the "fortunate circumstances" seemed a bit to convenient to be believed. But then again, life can often be stranger than fiction. I recommend.

Fantastic and Enlightening!
This book was such a great read, and it really educated me, in more ways than one, about what’s happening with missing black women today.

Needs a proofreader
Maybe most people won’t notice the errors that I did, but it was frustrating to me to read a poorly corrected manuscript. Spelling errors, bad line edits, etc. It’s too bad, because the story was good, but it could’ve been excellent.

Still so Relevant
It generally takes me a while to read a book because my work requires constant reading of business articles, research, etc., This was no exception but I always looked forward to coming back to Eva navigating being a doctor, wife, and daughter on top of uncovering her own complicated past. What I did not expect was the absolute relevance of this theme to what is currently going to Black and Brown women around the world who are missing, exploited and murdered. Thanks for lifting up their stories. Excellent read!

A woman searches for answers about her past, and uncovers old secrets
This book has 52 main chapters, and total of about 300 pages. At the end there is an Author's Note where the authors add a few words about the subject matter of the story. The story is about Eva, a biracial woman that was raised by parents that adopted her as a child. After her adopted mother passes away, Eva is compelled to learn more about her birth family, and takes a DNA test to see if she has any living biological relatives. The test results do connect her to some family, but she also learns of some tragic events that she never knew. As she searches for answers, she is increasingly frustrated that nobody else seems to be concerned about missing women of color. She begins to wonder if there are other connections, and if those disappearing women were all victims of the same nefarious person...Overall I found this book to be pretty interesting. The pacing is good, and the story kept me curious and engaged. Most of the dialogue also seemed pretty realistic, and I liked how the authors handled some of the difficult and uncomfortable situations that the characters had to face. As far as the mystery/thriller elements, there were a couple things that I might have wanted to go differently, but still a pretty solid story overall. The authors are also shining a light on some real-world issues, so if that appeals to you, you might appreciate this book even more. It was able to hold my attention until the end, so not a bad choice for one of your First Reads this month, in my opinion.

So gripping & brought tears!
This book is so gripping and well paced! Eva is such a very interesting and sympathetic character. The ways Dreda & Ryan wove the story about the missing women with Eva dealing with being “abandoned” as a child to how the story connects to Eva’s hair (and ask someone if you don’t know how we feel about our hair) just drew me in!! I had to finish it in one sitting! And I love when authors don’t either make their protagonists infallible or twist storylines into word pretzels to justify their behavior. Eva made choices - some good, some pretty bad - but they were rationalized and acknowledged as foolhardy when needed. I’ll read their books all day just for that. :-)

Makes you think
This story was a quick read. It certainly brings out problems in society. There were some very surprising and interesting twists in this story that really made it interesting.

Amazing, well written shed light on racism
I got this book from Amazon first reads. To start with I went into this book fairly blind. This is such a powerful story, beautiful written and deals with the issues that are faced by people of color. It's shed light on the issues that are still being ignored today! Each page of this book is a winding story being unfolded but with lessons within. It is absolutely incredible, once I started I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Its a moving piece and all the more epic because you can relate it to the current world where not much has changed for people of colour. I also fell in love with Eva continually on the search for who she is like so many of us lost on life's journey, she is amazing a beautiful well rounded Character that shows you the good the bad and the relatable.

Another banging read
Riveting read and so true to life. Dreda writing is by no means predictable. At the start of the book I had absolutely no idea where the book would go or end up. I wasn’t disappointed with the story just the fact that it had to end.
