I did not expect to love it, but I do. I plan to buy another.
I waited to write this review because I am a leather snob and care more about handbags than I do about cars so I needed to wait it out a little bit. I just ditched a $400 Michael Kors Hamilton shopper that was in this same beautiful caramel Hermes-like color as this Covelin tote I'm reviewing, because as much as I loved it and we all know we love getting everyone else to gush about our bags--I hated it. It weighed about 75 pounds and because of the price I was terrified of rain, fingernails, pens, small children....everything. I moved on to a "value" bag which goes against everything I believe it, which was cute, got lots of compliments, polka-dotsy, bold colors and statement-piecey., and everything about it did not represent me one bit. Carrying synthetic leather made me physically ill. So I took a chance on a company I'd never heard of and had two requirements: genuine leather, a neutral seasonless color that I could wear with black or brown, although I only wear black but dare to dream. I also wanted a few manageable compartments but not too many so you're constantly fishing. I wanted sturdy handles that would not be "set free" from their bucket, and I wanted it to have some sort of closure, preferably a heavy-duty well-made smooth zipper, to be able to zip the top of the tote shut when I didn't want it open to the world when I'm grocery shopping and distracted by a chocolate taste test. I will honestly say: Mission Accomplished. Covelin, you have met my expectations. Your price point does not have me living in fear and you have pleasantly surprised me with your quality and that's not easy to do because I am a very arrogant purse-snob. It's my one indulgence and to carry a purse that is not immediately recognized and envied is out of my comfort zone, so you have broken me and I thank you for it. I would like to be your spokesperson.

Almost the perfect tote purse!!!
I am totally in love with this purse and getting a lot of compliments!! Very nice quality, classy, soft, roomy, perfectly sized compartments and love the color options! Very well priced and looks good in a dressed up or dressed down outfit! Pretty awesome! So why so much love and 4 stars? Well, I think they can improve the 2 side pockets in this very awesome purse. I am including a picture of these 2 side pockets (left picture is the large pocket and the right is the small).Of the 2 pockets, the large pocket (in picture, it is on the left and with the ruler) is at a good length but the height and/or depth needs to be higher and/or deeper. For example, my cell phone sticks out a lot and falls out easily. My cell phone without the case is 6 inches and this pocket doesn't even reach 4 inches. The small pocket (in the picture, it is on the right with the tape measure) is so small, approximately 2 1/2 inches wide. In other purses with similar side pockets, I am able to put my keys inside this small pocket (2 car keys, 2 house keys on a key ring). In this purse, the small pockets is too small for my keys that 2 keys have to stick out for the others to fit inside. So currently, I use it for is for a hair clip and/or ponytail.Regardless of these 2 pockets, I really do love and enjoy this purse!

If you are in need of a medium sized bag, you have to check this out.
I used to get Sienna Ricci bags. In fact, I was addicted to them. This time it seems they were not being sold anymore so Inhad to start searching for a new bag maker. Well, leave it to Amazon to come up with the best bag maker around, Covelin. Not only is the bag awesome, but American Marketplace is a really good company. I got the bag about a day earlier than they said. The outside of the bag is soft to touch. The inside, and you will really have to see it to get the full picture, is luxurious! The material is lush. Most important of all is the center pocket for your wallet. I was in the bank one day, here we have police as guards, and he was telling me I should be safer and keep my bag closed as I walked. He recommended the center wallet zipped compartment in ladies bags. Have followed his advice for a very long time now. So, the wallet pocket is zipped, and there is a side of the bag inside zipped pocket. On the other side there are two pockets but not zipped. Outside the bag, on one side, is another zipped pocket. How can you go wrong!I recommend this bag highly.

Nice size traveling bag but it could have being designed much better.
This purse looks nice! It has a simple but classy design. Nice leather and color! (brown). The interior is roomy and I like its 2 compartments and a pocket with zipper. However, I found the lining material little rough but sturdy fabric. A softer or silky material it could have being a better choice to make the purse more elegant and appealing interior as well. After all this is not my main concern with the purse. The reason I took 2 stars: One, because the pocket from outside of the purse is TOO SMALL. It just fits a passport by itself. There is plenty of space inside the purse for a bigger pocket even if the zipper part was left the same size it has now. THE MAIN REASON I BOUGHT THIS PURSE, IS FOR THE EXRERIOR ZIP POCKET to place my passport and fly tickets so I am not looking inside the purse; but tickets DO NOT fit in the pocket only the passport by itself does. The other reason I took one star off is because THE STRAPS ARE TOO THIN. The straps are only 1/2" wide. This is so uncomfortable because during traveling one puts lots of things in a big purse and the straps being TOO THIN, they dig on the shoulder and make the purse heavier due to the THIN STRAPS that DO NOT provide a good support on the shoulders.I believe to improve the design, the straps should be ONE INCH WIDE for a big purse like this. If the seller could improve the straps' width and a bigger zip outside pocket, it would enhance the product for a better comfort and a greater design and quality as well. The purse right now, it looks out of proportion because is large and with "VERY THIN STRAPS" and a TOO SMALL ZIP EXTERIOR POCKET because it takes away its balance, beauty and comfortability and defies the purpose for which one buys the purse.

Lovely but toxic chemical smell won't come out
I got this purse in 2 colors: the royal blue and the mint. The colors are exquisite and exactly as represented in the photos, and the finish is strikingly gorgeous and very elegant looking. It does appear to be leather (underneath a very thick "vinyl-y" coating), but the "leather-look design" on the exterior (that has fooled so many people into thinking it's leather!) is painted on. You can verify this yourself by looking at it with a magnifying glass. You can see that the pattern repeats, which would never happen with leather! They might as well have just used vinyl, especially since it would have been lighter weight.I love how functional and logically laid out this purse is. It's just what I expected and what I wanted. The listing photos and description are very accurate. It could use an extra pocket or two outside, zippered or not, IMHO.Construction is very good, except the interior fabric is glued in and I have a little concern that it will separate from the leather later on. It would be nice if they would use a lighter color inside so we can see what's in our purses a little better! It's like a giant dark cavern in there!I know it's marketed as a tote, but I like large purses so I'm using it as a purse. It's definitely a bit on the large side for a purse, but for me it's acceptable, just barely, and mostly because it's so perfect otherwise: elegant, comfortable and functional.I find that it's pretty unusual for this style purse/ tote to zip closed, which I think is a great feature when you're walking through crowds or want to keep curious little fingers out! That said, there are a couple of inches on either side of the zipper's ends where the bag is not completely sealed. They designed it this way to allow the bag to expand in width as you fill it up.Using it as a purse - carrying lighter loads - I find the skinny straps are plenty comfortable, and, interestingly, they look more elegant/stylish than wider ones might. They gently fall to the side, out of the way, when the purse is sitting on the console in my car, and I'm not too worried that the straps will tear out where they are attached to the purse, whereas if they were wider/ heavier, they might, just from the effect of gravity. I've lost several great purses due to this problem. I wish all purse manufacturers would just use rivets to attach the straps, and that would solve this problem! This is not rocket science - not sure why they can't do that one simple thing. They put rivets on jeans' pockets All the, for goodness sakes! The straps on this bag are stitched, not riveted.I'm 5'5 and the straps are just barely long enough for me on the longest setting, so if you're tall, you may not be able to scoot the bag off your shoulder with the hand on that side and clear your elbow, something that I insist on personally. Also of note is that when the straps are on the longest setting, the end of the strap won't stay tucked into the semicircular metal grommet that's designed to hold it. I will probably glue the end of the strap in place since I know I will never need it shorter. As others have said, it would be great if they would put little metal feet on the bottom (and maybe middle center) of the bag to reduce wear on the corners and to help us keep the bag clean. After all, everyone seems to expect you to put your bag on the floor, which I generally resist but sometimes it just feels rude. A purse of this price should have some little quality details like this, don't you think? The only significant negative of this bag, IMHO, is the toxic odor which won't go away. I kept both the bags, and may even order a third, but the toxic chemical smell just won't stop after 2 months of owning them. It's coming from inside the bag. I propped them open and put them in the sun for days, and have blown air on them for days with my standing fan, but the smell is still there. I'm going to try sprinkling baking soda in there next. The one I keep in my closet makes the whole closet smell bad. I don't know if this is anything to worry about or not, as they say that some of the most toxic chemicals in the world have no odor. All I know is, no one wants their purse to smell like a chemical factory. And as much as they charge for this bag, couldn't they use something a little less gross and potentially toxic?I hope these observations help someone. Happy purse shopping, everyone!
