Lovely book
Saw this as a stocking filler on This Morning programme before Christmas. My niece has her birthday in the new year, so I thought it would make a nice gift. She lives it.

All about embracing your talents and not comparing yourself to others
This thoroughly modern fairytale is all about finding your niche and embracing your talents. Princess Shiloh has to learn not to constantly compare herself to her sisters and their beautiful singing voices. Shiloh can spit rhymes and itβs her turn to shine! Gorgeous and empowering for readers aged 3+

Great to see an alternative culture... but the rhymes aren't wonderful
3.5 stars.Shiloh can't sing. Every other princess can sing. Why can't she? Her story is the familiar one of a child who wants to fit in but who actually finds h/she has her own talent somewhere else. While I loved Shiloh as a character and Lee's setting/context for the story, I really didn't feel the rhymes were up to standard. Especially in a story about rap and rhyme. Clunky and pedestrian, to my ears. Reading them aloud it was more noticeable. We need more books set in other cultures, with characters representative of more than the typical storybooks. This gives us colour and culture, in a familiar story. Children will most likely love the idea of rapping, and of the princess who's a little different. For ages 3 to 7.
