Good textbook, a few important topics are under-covered
I am an attending pediatric intensivist. Overall I find this a great textbook that focuses on clinically relevant information while including (for the most part) enough basic science, physiology, and pathophysiology to put the material in context and help it stick. In my relatively brief usage of the book so far, I have encountered a few notable holes. For example, there is only one short paragraph on thromboelastography - any intensivist who frequently manages cardiac, heme-onc, or trauma patients should know how to interpret TEGs to evaluate coagulopathy, and I think every PICU textbook needs to include some basics on TEG theory and interpretation. Also, almost nothing on anaphylaxis, again a clinical entity frequently encountered in the PICU that probably deserves its own chapter. None of the textbooks are perfect in my opinion - this is still one of three I would equally recommend for practicing intensivists. I think Lucking is much higher yield for boards-relevant content.
