A gripping adventure saga
A young boy gets adopted by a forest guardian. Then follows a vivid description of life and learning in the forest. There are also monsters. Finally his destiny is revealed but to fulfill it he will need to go on long perilous journeys. Exciting read! Strongly recommend.

It's just ok...
It hit the average mark for me if only just barely, it's below average if in most regards honestly, further into the series the story gets better for a while then it worsens consistently , the characters are stupid despite being old, there is a consistent theme of females being better than males and being given more leeway, the characters develop only for that development to deviate jarringly or be destroyed in the 6th installment of the series.Overall I would not suggest getting into the series as the overall story progressively gets worse rather than better.

Definitely recommend it!
I love books about ranger type characters, and this is a great example of them. Its suitable for young adults, without feeling too childish for me to read.Great plot and mechanics.I like the amount if magic, and how its implemented, such as why it cant be the cure all solution to every problem. That seems to be more common than I'd think. The characters all have depth, and the protagonist is doing some great developing.Him learning things slowly is letting us learn about his world at an appropriate pace, with few exceptions. An example would be finding out about Culhan's saliva a full two years after his introduction..There are grammatical typos, maybe as many as five?I think that a character had three horns initially, then it said teo during their last big fight of the book.(Trying to help without giving spoilers)I don't know why the main never thinks to carry or use an axe, nor has he mentioned using one ever, except maybe to test out a weapon? Strange for a woodsman? That's okay though. Works out later. All in all though, its a very enjoyable, well written book. I'll be buying the sequel immediately.
