This kit need the external power adapter to power on the device. The 2.1mm x 5.5mm dc jack & plug allow power to be sent on the CAT-5 and split out again at the remote end. If you are powering a device like a camera, then this splitter/converter will solve distance problems up to 90 ft. This Power over Ethernet injector allows you to power devices remotely and eliminates the need for any transformers at the far end. If you did not get a power supply adapter with the camera you will have to purchase one.
