Q: Would this chest be large enough to hold blankets and extra bed pillows?

You can probably hold one thick blanket (the down one) or a few of throw blankets. I wouldn't put pillows in there before it's not wide enough so you may have to squish the pillows

Q: Does this come assembled in one piece?

Yes, it's all assembled upon arrival and has a lining on the inside. Very nice piece.

Q: Is it sturdy enough to prop your feet up on?

The structure and frame are sturdy. We can even sit on it (one at a time) but we aren't very big with the heaviest less than 150 pounds. That puts me in agreement with the other responses so far. However, the outside is more like straw; it is not like wicker. It is soft and pliable. Our cats with no front claws rub their feet on it and it breaks. If they jump off, their hind claws leave behind holes in the rush "straw." If the wish is to use it as a foot rest, the straw could well break down over time. We like ours very much and have 3 of them but I wouldn't recommend using it as a regular foot rest because of the vulnerability of the straw.

Q: Could this be used as a creative laundry hamper? Does it feel like the right size?

Yes it is a nice size I would not recommend using it as a bench it is not strong enough for that. Overall a good purchase.
