Case Files Internal Medicine, Fifth Edition (LANGE Case Files)

Perfect review for clinic
Great review of Internal Medicine that actually makes you think about what you would do for that patient rather than just bullet points. I like that it doesn't always give you every bit of information you need and makes you narrow/confirm your ddx with further tests. Much more clinically useful than reading review books that are usually exam focused.

Solid review resource for IM Shelf
Arrived on time and as stated in perfect condition. So far the cases have been helpful and comprehensive. 3-5 practice questions at the end of each case provide solid explanations both why an answer is correct and why incorrect answers are wrong. Nice index at the back for quick reference.

I only liked the ob one
Everyone loves this series. I only liked the ob one. This is too wordy and seems a little out of order in terms of how they present things.

Hits the bread and butter medicine. Gives you great scope of what is important for medical school knowledge level. Will help you confidently select the next step in the treatment algorithm during the exam. Every clerkship that I use case files to augment UWorld, I ace the shelf.

Full of typos!!!!
The Case Files series have been the mainstay of my study routine for my junior clerkships in medical school. But this one has SOOOO many typos that it makes me question the validity of the content. It is peppered with misspelled words, unfinished sentences, there's one spot where the author actually left a note to himself to look up whether or not a comma was used appropriately. It's like the rough draft went into publication. I plan on continuing to use Case Files, but I'm pretty disappointed with this one.

Clinical cases
Very useful for your internal medicine clerkship or even for an examination. At the beginning of each chapter there's a patient presentation. You have to guess the diagnosis and the initial treatment. Turning the page, you will find an explanation of the case, plus a quick overview of the disease and the differential diagnosis. At the end of the chapter, a couple of MC questions and a summary. Not recommended for beginners, you have to possess at least a basic knowledge of clinical medicine to get the most out of the book. It's intended for 4th-5th-6th year medical students (in Europe - no idea what would be the equivalent in the US).

This book is such an eye opener! The content is interesting and so easily digestible. If you’re going nowhere with textbooks like Davidson’s, you should definitely try this. It’s a super practical approach which still manages to give you the right dose of theory.
