I can't imagine why you'd want to paint them, but I suppose you can... The placemats are made of a nylon mesh, so I guess you'd do well to spray paint them, lest you make a, um, mess of the mesh... Oh, did I really say that? ... The mats are inexpensive to begin with so if the job comes out badly your level of regret won't compel you to seek professional help. Have fun! -- RLB--

Q: How long do they last?

These are mesh mats, made of nylon. If you're careful, they'll probably last forever. Be careful of pointy, sharp objects when you handle them. Don't put them in a dishwasher. Don't do your soldering on them. Don't use them for non-skid in your shower. Don't scrub them with steel wool. Use them on your table and hand-wash them when they get grubby and I'm pretty sure you'll use them for a very long time.
