Excellent Resource for Writers
This book is chock-full of pictures and some brief descriptions of women's fashions in the 1930s. An excellent resource for writers covering this period. Now the femme fatales can be authentically portrayed.

Is it worth it? ( Fashion Design Edition)
I know the 1930's is considered a golden age in fashion but my eyes says NOPE.I even look sideways at their hats. I think it may have been labelled so due to movies having a bigger impact on fashion choices. You can clearly see the progression from the roaring 20's.This book is very nice. It gets to the point, while also provides sufficient photos and illustrations. Is it worth it? Yes.

A beautiful book
Like her volume on 1920s fashion, this book clocks in at 500 pages, almost all of them photos and drawings from the era. Once again, most of the magazine pages and ads show the back side of the clothing, which I really like as a sewist of old fashioned costume. I found the introduction to be much more interesting than the one in the 20s book; it talks about the newly burgeoning film industry affected women’s dress- French idea and design, slightly changed Hollywood version, home pattern with less details. (oh, how I wish Hollywood had costume designs like those these days!) Hollywood fashion was luxurious and extremely glamourous, despite of the Depression (or, perhaps, because of- huge, beautiful movies and larger than life stars to take people’s minds off their money problems) and women sewed up their own versions of backless evening gowns and fake fur stoles. After ten or so years of a boyish figure being the ideal form, women, while still slim, were expected now to have a bustline and hips. Nail polish arrived on the scene, a by-product of the car enamal industry, and eye makeup was everywhere. Four and a half stars.

So Good!
The media could not be loaded. This book is amazing! Over 500 pages of beautiful photos from fashion magazines from the 1930's. I was hoping there wouldn't be any modern depictions of 1930s styles and there wasn't! It's purely photos from the decade. If you're studying the 30s for vintage style, costumes or just a collector - you need this book. The quality is amazing for the price and the pictures are large enough to view.

Fabulous
I have bought this for a dress designer friend. I imagine it as a coffee table book to be picked up and looked at when relaxing. However, as in my friend’s case, it’s also fantastic for inspiration for dressing actors for this period and when she’s asked to make wedding dresses from this specific era. I have had a good time looking at it and it’s wonderful value at present whilst on offer. Thank you 😊

Fabulous - but no menswear!
I was delighted with this book, photos, drawings, hats, accessories etc. I am directing a play set in 1939 and I wanted to get the costuming right - this gave very clear indication of each year through the decade which has made my job so much easier. BUT there is no menswear at all, it is totally ladies’ fashion which is disappointing. So, not a definitive “costuming” guide of the period.
