TL;DR If you’re someone who considers writing supplies to be an investment, this pencil board is an investment worth every penny. And it’s not even that many pennies!I’ve been an avid bullet journaler for the past 3 years. Between lockdowns and being diagnosed with ADHD, I needed a better way to stay organized. That’s not what this review is about but stick with me.Over the years I’ve collected tools to make my bullet journaling experience as fun and as comfortable as it can be. That includes all kinds of pens and pencils to color-code, stickers to note medications, and even a bookmark with stencils so I can quickly fill in the day’s weather conditions. This pencil board is the newest addition to my toolbox and I already love it.I use a mix of felt tip and gel pens and colored pencils. This pencil board gives just enough resistance to write comfortably, regardless of how far I’m into a notebook. Do you know that feeling of writing in the middle section of a hardback notebook? That sweet spot where there aren’t too few pages on one side or the other? This pencil board solves the problem immediately.It also solves the issue of not having enough room to write properly. Now I don’t need a table or desk to get my ideas out; my lap is just fine. That’s a huge step up from “It’s ok in a pinch.” Journalers, writers, and sketchers know exactly what I mean.My bullet journal isn’t just to-do lists and reminders; it’s a record of what’s happening now. I’ve gotten cautious about taping and gluing mementos onto the pages because it leads to lumpy writing down the road. True, the pencil board won’t “fix” that. Objects have dimensions and take up space and all of that. The pencil board will however provide a smoother, more even surface to write upon.I use standard Leuchtturn1917 A5 (Medium) hardback journals. The A5 pencil board sticks out about 5mm on the top and side, It doesn’t bother me to leave it in my notebook like that all of the time, but it’s light and thin enough to carry along with other accessories if that’s something that would annoy you.
