Difficult to find something I don't like about it
What can one say. It's Dorsey! Difficult to find something I don't like about it. Very good.

It was good for the purpose i bought it.
It fit in very nicely with a video I put together. Very few young people have ever heard this song.

A generous helping of mediocrity
In their continuing series of greatest hits by famous big bands, Jimmy Dorsey's output between 1936-1944 is the subject of this ASV-Living Era compilation. After brother Tommy's famous walkout in July 1935, Jimmy and the rest of the Dorsey Brothers' Orchestra stayed with Decca and recorded hundreds of sides for this label, some of them good (which you won't find here) and many of them run-of-the-mill, some of which became hits (which you do find here).Dorsey's band led a fairly anonymous existence for the first 5-6 years, never deciding what it wanted to be: a two-beat band à la Bob Crosby, an all-round band as a backdrop to Decca's more famous artists such as Bing Crosby or the Andrews Sisters or a swing band. Even after it had discovered the gimmick of splitting songs into three parts (slow chorus by male singer, faster instrumental interlude, fast chorus by female singer) its own identity remained low. The name of Jimmy Dorsey certainly isn't helped by these mostly commercial, sometimes silly and occasionally rather boring titles on this disc, that seems to have been issued for commercial rather than for musical reasons. Sales numbers do not say anything at all about the intrinsic musical value, but more about the public's taste (or lack thereof). Dorsey did have a damn good band, but it is left to a few rare LPs to prove that: the Decca Silver Star Swing Series and the Circle LP which was mainly drawn from radio transcriptions, where this band REALLY goes to town.

Great selections of Dorsey songs yet the recording quality is not as full ranged as the newer CDs.
