Great Book for Political Science Majors and Minors
My name is Leo Kolodiy, and I'm a sophomore at the University of Washington in Seattle. This summer I am working as an intern with torture survivors who are applying for affirmative asylum. Affirmative asylum applicants entered the U.S. legally with visas. Often, they have to wait for months or even years for an interview. And once they're granted an interview, they don't receive the decision immediately. I also learned from The Asylumist that an applicant had a higher chance of being approved for asylum in an immigration court, rather than during an USCIS interview. The asylum process is very complicated and Jason made it much easier for me to understand. This book was a great introduction to the asylum process. I highly recommend it to college students and anyone else interested in immigration.

An Insider's Guide to Asylum
With insight gleaned from decades work as an amnesty lawyer, Jason Dzubow has written a terrific guide for anyone trying to understand the labyrinth of American immigration law. The Asylumist takes you deep inside that complex bureaucratic world, going beyond the law into little known practices and behaviors that increase the odds of success. For instance, how witnesses can help you – but also hurt you – tricks for expediting your case, and what to do “when your judge is a jerk.” Dzubow does it all with the same breezy writing that characterizes his long-time blog, Asylumist.com. (Some may even recognize some of his blog posts here.)This is an essential book for anyone seeking asylum, trying to help someone win asylum, or simply interested in this very important American issue, especially at this critical time

Informative, thoughtful, and funny!
I was very excited to dig into “The Asylumist: How to Seek Asylum in the United States and Keep Your Sanity” by Jason Dzubow. Jason’s blog The Asylumist is a fantastic resource for asylum seekers. Now, key issues are distilled into easily readable and organized topics such as “Do Immigration Lawyers Suck?” and “My Attorney Sucks. Now What?” and “When the Judge is a Jerk”. If you have questions or an interest in this field, this is the informative and quite frankly funny while it breaks your heart book to read.

Informative and well-explained
Jason Dzubow’s book, The Asylumist, presents a comprehensive guide to seeking asylum in the US. As a non-lawyer, I was able to understand the complex legal proceedings because Mr. Dzubow broke down the steps involved in the application process into understandable terms. His witty writing style captivates the readers’ attention as they delve into reading about the arduous asylum process. The Asylumist is complete with anecdotes from Mr. Dzubow’s personal experiences as a lawyer, which add in a great deal of insider perspective. Mr. Dzubow’s work provides valuable insight into the confusing and opaque realm of US immigration law, and is a great resource for anyone interested in learning more about the asylum process or immigration.
