The Night She Won Miss America

This was a far-fetched story with so much descriptive filler - it was hard to care about the main character after the first couple chapters - she made multiple impulsive decisions, and even when faced with absolutely clear danger, she kept making more stupid decisions. The book was stretched out to the point of ridiculousness. I've enjoyed previous books by this author, but definitely not this one.

Couldn't read more than two chapters. Author could have told this story from a more interesting perspective.Huge disappointment.

This is a fun escapism quick read, one that fans of the Miss America program will particularly enjoy. I easily devoured it throughout a weekend of actually overseeing a Miss America local pageant and especially enjoyed the insights into the historical aspect of the 1950 competition. It was well-written, entertaining, and sparked thinking (especially about what it feels like to be a young girl suddenly thrust into such an incredible role as Miss America)-- all of the things I look for in a pleasure book. Nothing really deep here, but just a good weekend read that absolutely will find you researching what happened in the real story of Bette Cooper in 1937-- someone definitely needs to write that book!

I loved this story. Besides the ins and outs of the pageant, the love story and all that happened after the pageant kept me engrossed!

I enjoy this story based on a true event. However, the author adds some surprise twists and turns. This a tale based on the 1937 Miss America contest, but this novel sets it in the 1940s. The book includes friendships, a bossy mom, a murder, running away, first love, an illness, sun flowers, escorts, the harp, nice contestants, nasty contestants, a hotel, brothers and a sister, a chase, newsmen, a ball, and more. The book kept my attention and it deserves an A++++++
