Nice easy read and quite accurate accounts of the crusades. Interesting facts and a great way to start learning about theses periods of time.

Political axe-grinding as history
It felt like this work was more interested in speaking to the twenty-first century culture wars than it was to the purported subject matter. It said much about the author, but less about The Crusades.

Enjoyable but short read
Enjoyed but felt it had rushed through the years, but in a way gave a decent understanding of what is happening with terrorists such as Taliban and Isis today, sending our troops to fight these fanatics.

Very Readable And Very Thought Provocking
What a refreshing and enlightening book particularly appreciated the Introduction which seems so obviously fact based and true. Like most of today’s generations my teachers and their recommended texts extolled the evil of these crusaders and enlightened views of their enemies and this never did seem quite “ right “ given the subsequent histories of progress and advancement on one side and the current state of crusaders opponents. This book has awaken an urge to read more deeply on the subject.

Not that bad
Despite all the harsh a reviews on here, this book is not that bad. Yes, it's not a deep scholarly tome, the writing style is rather casual and it can be read in about an hour, but it's still interesting and especially refreshing, as other readers have said, to have a book that doesn't ipso facto portray all theChristian crusaders as evil etc. Which is what the usual default societal narrative on this subject is.

Short introduction
Normally enjoy Henry Freeman's books but think he must have been having a bad month when he put this together. Normally eloquent and impartial, HF is quite partisan and a bit sloppy in this book. His other history books have been absolutely excellent

Not bad
This was free on kindle and having an interest in the crusades i thought I'd give it a go.As a brief description of the crusades it is sufficient, however there is also lists of information missing and incorrect facts (the Hospitallers took their name from hospital, not the other way around). But, for a free book I can't complain too much. It did the job!
