Calculus Workbook For Dummies

A Great Complement for the Companion Book
This book is actually a companion workbook to the other book Mark Ryan wrote called "Calculus for Dummies." I would recommend getting the theory book as well. This book is light on the theory, giving only a cursory introduction to the material in the beginning of each chapter. The book covers the basics of Calculus: pre-calculus, limits and continuity, differentiation, integration, and infinite series. In each chapter, he provides one to two dozen problems to solve, after giving a few examples first. All of the problems have full solutions - great! So if you have any difficulty, you can just check the solution for what you may have done wrong. The solutions are very clear and detailed. I think all textbooks should come with solutions to the problems. I find that having the solution available to study greatly enhances learning. The problems, I think, are well chosen. Ryan didn't just throw in a few repetitive or similar problems to solve. The problems vary in type and difficulty. I think his problem selection is very good and will certainly benefit the user.I have provided here a suggestion on which chapters in the theory book correspond to which chapters in the workbook.1. Read chapters 1 to 6 in the theory book, and then do chapters 1 and 2 in the workbook.2. Read chapter 7 in the theory book, and then do chapter 3 in the workbook.3. Read chapter 8 in the theory book, and then do chapter 4 in the workbook.4. Continue in this fashion for the remainder of the chapters. Both these books are great for someone who has had calculus and needs a refresher or for the individual who is currently taking a class in Calculus and needs supplemental help. These books will give you a much better understanding than the more obtuse college texts.

Excellent tool for learning, keeping up with or brushing up on calculus skills.
Excellent tool for learning, improving, AND keeping up your calc skills. This workbook is perfect for someone who wishes to brush up on stuff long forgotten or to reinforce skills for those just starting out. I wish I had this tool when I first took calc-1 in 1962. For the price this is an excellent bargain. Truly for learning calc there was no such thing as the good old days. Things today are fantastic for learning calc.

Level of Dummies
This book is good enough for the average dummy. However, if you, like me, are a lower level dummy it takes more. I find myself searching the internet for further understanding on each subject in the book. I am visually queued, when it comes to learning and I am the person who is always asking why? It is not enough to tell me to memorize the formula and use it. I have to know why? Why does logarithms set up the way it is? What does it mean? what is the base in log mean? what is Log e really mean? How do I apply it? Once I truly get all this answered I will never forget it.

Great review book for keeping your calculus skills sharp
Just graduated from high school. I took calculus my senIor year and really liked it. I'm going to college this fall and I'll be taking calc I first semester. I needed something to keep my calculus skills and mindset over the summer, this book does the job. I just do a few problem sets from each chapter/section every week during my spare time. Great problem book.

Easy Reader
I am going back to take Calculus 3 in the spring and this has been a great refresher. Very well presented in easy to understand terms and full of good practice questions. Make sure you get the accompanying Calculus For Dummies book too. They work rather well together. Enjoy.

Out of School for over 10 Years
This book has really helped me a lot. I'm in college taking Calculus. However, I've been out of school for over 10 years. Being in class with those kids half my age is really intimidating. With the help of this book, It's giving me my confidence back to be able to compete with my class. :-)

Will help the non-math student ease into Calculus
Probably the best of the Dummies series. Excellent for training non-math majors in calculus, with plain English explanations and common sense reasoning. Will take the student through Calc 1 and well into Calc 2.

Misleading Title for the book.
It is certainly not a book for dummies. Worked problems have very poor explanations . It is a book for people who have learnt Calculus in their college days recently and need to brush up for some reason. Quite a strain to read every chapter.

A good companion to Calculus for Dummies
Calculus for Dummies is great if you want to understand the basics of calculus. Indeed, it takes you well beyond what might be seen as the basics. The Workbook is a companion text, with exercises some of which ought to be included in Calculus for Dummies. The exercises in each section of the Workbook become progressively harder, and/or quite tricky in places, and you need to return from time to time to Calculus for Dummies to reinforce your understanding of the principles there before tackling these harder/trickier questions. Fear not though as a full answer is given to each question at the end of each chapter of the Workbook. If you intend buying Calculus for Dummies then buy at the same time the companion Workbook. Both are excellent books. But don't be misled by "for Dummies" in the title. If you are a real gold-plated dummy when it comes to anything mathematical then Calculus for Dummies and the Workbook are probably not for you.
