Well Written, Excellent Guide to Backcounty Travel & Adventure
Susan Joy Paul's latest guidebook is a comprehensive book on backcountry travel & adventure. It is a valuable resource for anyone wanting to explore the outdoors, but what gives this book unique authority is the voice of its author. It is written by an experienced wilderness explorer who understands the barriers, challenges, and concerns of women who may be uncertain if the backcountry is a place where they truly belong. The answer, of course, is a resounding yes.I read this book at the same time as my wife, an experienced mountaineer and backpacker. Even she sometimes second-guesses herself and her place in the mountains. Reading Woman in the Wild encouraged her to remember all the remarkable adventures she's had—and inspired her to plan for more in the future. Besides the confidence-boosting aspect, the guide also contains the latest advice on modern equipment, navigation techniques, and fitness theories. It's a woman's place to be in the wilderness. This guide sets a wonderful standard for both experienced outdoorswomen and those brand new to backcountry adventures. It's a resource for conventional outdoors knowledge, yes, but also masterfully written to inspire women to be fearless in their pursuit of adventure.

All the info a woman needs to begin adventuring in the great outdoors
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! It’s chock full of all the information a woman needs before heading into the wild. It starts where we would start , at the very beginning, and gives lots of helpful advice about everything. How to prepare, what gear you’ll need, and how to decide what will work best for you personally. Great info on resources to make your adventure safe and enjoyable. I love that Susan doesn’t just give a laundry list of what to buy, ( all the newest, most expensive stuff....), but encourages us to start by looking at what we already own, and then to outfit ourselves with the best gear for our specific needs. As a woman who until now has only done local hiking, on well known trails, this book has really encouraged me to begin taking my love of the outdoors to the next level. With the help of Susan, I know I will be prepared to explore the wilds and experience exciting new adventures!

Terrific Outdoor Guide For Women
A fantastic guide for women of all hiking levels who want to up their outdoor game, be it traversing a gently undulating back country trail or hiking up a 14,000-footer. Susan covers everything under the womanly sun and then some. (I’m getting a bear-proof canister and a head lamp myself!) Her knowledge is vast and impressive, which she conveys in a straight forward and easy to read writing style. At the end of each chapter she suggests action steps related to that particular topic. But what I loved the most were the inspiring pictures of Susan hiking and mountain climbing in the wilderness. Her obvious love of the outdoors will awaken your own wild soul.
