The Push Hands Workbook: T'Ai Chi Partner Movements (Tui Shou) For Sport And Personal Development Paperback – 20 November 2006

I like the author's intro and the format is clear enough. I didn't expect the book's content to train my push hands skill,but supplement other teaching. I got more than I expectedA separate in-person instruction I received taught a dimension I cldn't have imagined, and I don't think a book can steer one away from mistakes about relaxing tension. ...so if you can find an authentic teacher,would be better.I like the book as a reference and activity for my brain.Undertaking learning the body sensations and mind, and finding a good partner I think is required.I liked the book enough to gift it.

No doubt this was a good faith efforts to share his art and one of its distinctive spheres.Undoubtedly some readers will love this book.For my part though I found this book difficult to follow and even after a second reading had made little progress eg I still can not open and close my kau. The written instructions were difficult to envisage and even some of the photos did not help. Another problem was the authors movement between modern western anatomy, traditional Chinese, and his analogy language. The book was de-contextualised for the larger part which resulted in an obscurity effect. The later chapter on stepping seemed the better starting point. Perhaps at some future point I will return to this book, but only if I have a training partner to try it out with. Meanwhile I shall look to other sources if a look further at all. Sorry to say I did find this book boring.

Il libro è molto ben fatto. Le spiegazioni sono chiare e le foto esemplificano chiaramente quanto viene descritto.Il tui-shou va fatto in coppia, ma seguendo le istruzioni di questo libro ci si può esercitare anche da soli, e poi allenarsi meglio quando si ha un partner.Lo consiglio a tutti, sia ai principianti sia a chi ha esperienza.

Thus the 4 stars. It would have been 5 if there had been a section on practical applications.
