No regrets
Does everything it claims to. Great size, square shape is so much more practical than round. MY favorite appliance in the kitchen!

Instructions are bare bones, but the air fryer is wonderful!
First off, my apologies for being late in posting this review. I received this fryer about a week or so ago but didn't know what to make with it because . . . I had NEVER used an air fryer before. Also, this particular model DOES NOT COME WITH RECIPES! Nothing, zilch, nada! You pretty much have to look for your recipes online because the Instant Vortex will not provide you with any. They will give you a very broad time and heat guide but that's it.In fact, my main complaint with this air fryer is mainly on the bare-bones instructions. For that reason, a lot of what you do with this air fryer is going to have to be through trial and error. There are more instructions to prevent you from lighting your house on fire than there are in the operation of the machine. So, as someone who has never used an air fryer before, especially an Instant Vortex Plus 6 Quart 6-in-1 thingamajig, what did I think of it?AWESOME!But before we get to why it's awesome, I need to tell you what you're going to get when you purchase this device.THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE PURCHASING:1.) Most timers (at least in the US) when they are 00:00 it means 00 mins : 00 seconds. Not so with this air fryer. With the Instant Vortex the first two digits are hours and the last two digits are minutes. This was not clear in the instruction manual. Remember, I've never used an air fryer before, so this was new to me.2.) When using air fryer mode, at around 3 quarters time, the fryer will ask you to turn over your food. This was also not very clear in the instructions.3.) The basket is SMALL and not ideal for party size servings. Six quarts is good for a couple, but anyone with a big family is going to find themselves running multiple batches to get enough food cooked. If you're planning a big super bowl wing fest, you might want to get something bigger.BONUS: The air fryer DOES NOT get dangerously hot like an oven. You can accidentally touch the top of the fryer and not burn your hand off. The vent in the back is also warm but not blazing hot. As long as the safety instructions are followed, this machine feels very safe to use.Somehow we didn't blow a fuse when using the microwave and the air fryer at the same time, so that was also impressive, but your results may vary. All right, so let's get into exactly how I used my air fryer as someone who has never, ever used one before.- We added pepper and salt to the raw wings. Then we greased the tray and basket with Pam cooking oil. EDIT: (Don't grease the tray with PAM. You can spray your food not your tray. Or use a substitute instead of PAM.)- We found an online recipe that was for 24 minutes. At the twelve minute mark we flip over the wings and cook the other side.- After putting the food into the tray and setting the fryer for 12 minutes, we quickly discovered that the fryer must PREHEAT first. After it ran through its preheat cycle, then it said "ADD FOOD." Whoops. The wings stayed in there anyway.- At around 5 minutes, the fryer then said "TURN FOOD OVER." We didn't know it was going to give us this prompt. So we took out the basket to check on the wings, they were cooking but not yet finished, so we flipped them over.- Once the timer was finished, we removed the basket and saw that the wings were halfway cooked, awesome! We popped them back in for another 12 minutes but made note that in the future, we just put them in for 24 and wait for the fryer to tell us when to flip. Also, not once did I feel a blast of hot air like I do when taking things out of the oven. The fryer and the basket felt safe to handle AT ALL TIMES.- After another twelve minutes it was time to taste test. Did the wings cook thoroughly or were we about to get a case of salmonella?- The answer was YES! The wings cooked thoroughly. The exterior skin was nice and crunchy while the inside was juicy and flavorful. All of the excess oil dripped off of the wings and settled at the bottom of the basket. Awesome!- Clean up required dumping out the remaining oil into a bag, then cleaning the basket and grill with paper towels and water.THEN WE TRIED COOKING SALMON USING THE BAKE SETTING.- Grease the grill with pam. EDIT: DO NOT GREASE THE GRILL WITH PAM. You can put PAM on your food but not the grill tray. Supposedly this starts to erode some of the coating on the tray. Whoops! Found this out recently.- Pop 1.6lbs of Salmon into the basket. (This time we waited for the preheat)- Cooked for 7 minutes at 389 I believe. Don't remember.- Took the salmon out and found that the interior was still raw. Whoops. Again, no recipes means we don't know what the heck we're doing with this thing. Pop it back in for another 7 minutes.- Salmon bakes and is now thoroughly cooked. Still good, still flavorful, but we underestimated cooking time.WHAT ABOUT THE BROIL, ROAST, REHEAT & DEHYDRATE FEATURE?I, unfortunately, do not know. We haven't really roasted, broiled, or dehydrated food in my house. However, if the chicken wings and salmon are the standard it sets, then I'm sure those features will work perfectly. In fact, I have to say that I am supremely impressed with the Instant Vortex 6-in-1 multi use fryer. It's extremely safe t use, It cooks the food thoroughly, and it's super easy to clean. If you're looking for an air fryer with the versatility of an oven but without the hassle or increase to your gas bill, than this air fryer is definitely going to be a perfect fit for you! Very, very happy with this device and I can't wait to fry more food with it.HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Toxic plastic taste and smell, disgusting!
I had such high hopes for this air fryer and expected a lot more from this brand/company but I’m extremely disappointed in my purchase. First off the air fryer itself is very sleek and looks nice, it is easy to use but there are major design flaws. The basket/rack at the bottom is not secure and makes taking out food more difficult than it has to be as you cannot simply turn the basket over to get your food out on a plate because if you do that everything (food, bottom basket, grease) comes spilling out and crashing to the floor. The most frustrating thing however and the major deal breaker for me is not only the horrible plastic smell this air fryer emits but the toxic plastic taste it imparts on the food! Everything cooked in it is inedible because of this. I thought it may go away after a couple of uses but it has not. I cleaned all parts thoroughly several times, ran it empty several times, ran it with a ramekin full of water and lemon juice then water and vinegar and cooked several rounds of Food that tasted like a chemical/plastic and had to be thrown out. Very disappointed as this in my opinion is unusable due to terrible taste and likely toxic effect on my family’s health. Do not buy! The plastic smell and PLASTIC TASTE never went away.

Outstanding bang for your buck.
My Instant Vortex Plus Air Fryer Oven ReviewI ordered this air fryer on 09/11/2022 and received it on 09/16/2022. I had been reading a lot of good things about air fryers and had been toying with the idea of getting one for myself. I thought the 6 quart model would be just about the right size.It arrived well packaged in an outer box and was undamaged. I’ve read stories where people have received what they suspected were used and returned models, but that does not appear to be the case with me.Following the break in procedures in the included manual, I ran a foodless test cook at 400° for 20 minutes. I immediately detected the oft talked about burning plastic odor. It was noticeable, it was not nearly as over powering as some of the one star ratings made it sound. After the first test cook I allowed it cool for about 10 minutes and ran a second and then a third foodless test cook all at 400°. While I have no proof to back up my theory, I suspect the odor is nothing more then production oils burning off. The odor seemed to subside with each consecutive test cook. After a day or so it was completely gone. I should mention that taking the little "feet" off the plate in the basket did not have any effect either good or bad with respect to the odor as far as I could tell. But like I said, by the next day the odor was gone. This morning I tried my first actual test cook of a grilled ham and cheese sandwich. Buttered each side of the bread and preheated the air fryer. When it was ready I set the timer for 6 minutes at 400° with a flip at the 3 minute mark. Sandwich came out nice and toasty, though I would have preferred the cheese to be a little more gooey.Next I tried some home made French fries. I think I made a few mistakes. First, I used the Julian feature on my mandolin to slice the potatoes. The fries came out extremely thin and small. The next mistake was I placed them in the basket and sprayed a little EVOO on them, thinking it would help them crisp. Because they were so small and thin, some burned, the others just came out soggy from the EVOO. I’m chalking that up to inexperience. So I decided to tackle chicken wings. I dusted them with a flour, salt, pepper and paprika mix and cooked them at 380° for 20 minutes. While they did come out somewhat crispy, they were not the golden color I was looking for. I think my mistake here was in not brushing them with olive oil to help crisp up the skin. Another case of inexperience. I’m not going to give up though because I do dearly love me some fried chicken. My next foray into air fryer cooking was boneless pork chops. I seasoned these with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder on both sides. Unless I’m following a recipe I don’t measure things, I just add till it “looks right”. Just for the heck of it I decided to use the Broil feature instead of Air Fry. I set the timer for 17 minutes and the temp at 400°. I flipped the chops at 8 ½ minutes. These came out perfect. A nice “bark” on the outside and juicy on the inside.I was so pleased with the way the pork chops came out, the next day I decided to take a run at bacon. I cooked two different batches. The first was using the air fryer setting. Time was six minutes, temp was 360°. When it was done the bacon still seemed to be not as crunchy as I would like, so I added 2 more minutes. This time they were nice and crunchy. My second batch was on Broil. You can’t change the temp which is preset at 400° so I reduced the cooking time down to five minutes. Personally I liked the Broil results better then the air fryer setting. So did my wife. As a side note, I was surprised at how little bacon grease remained in the pan after cooking. In the interest of full disclosure, after I opened the package of bacon, I cut the slab in half so they fit better in the basket. I was able to get six half slices into the pan without overlapping. Also after cooking I peeked inside the air fryer and did not see any evidence of bacon grease splatter anywhere.Since I already had a third of a breakfast done, I decided to go full Monty. I found three Yukon Gold potatoes in the kitchen so I peeled and diced them up. I tossed them with just a smidge of olive oil, garlic powder, salt, pepper and paprika. I tossed them in the fryer, selected broil and set the timer for 12 minutes. Remember, the temp for broiler is preset to 400° and can’t be changed. At least not as far as I could figure out. When they were done I taste tested a few and they were delicious so I called it good. While eating I came across a few of the bigger chunks that probably could have gone another minute or so, but that’s not a big deal. Then I cooked up some scrambled eggs for my wife and a couple sunnyside up for me, old school on the stove and breakfast was served. Over all I would have to say I was delighted with the results.I have not tackled the Dehydrate feature yet. I’m not sure how I feel about running my air fryer for several hours. I did take a stab at banana chips. To keep them from turning black some videos recommend dunking in salt water while another suggested using lemon juice. Since the one video didn’t mention how much salt to use, I went with the lemon juice. They did not “chip” and tasted like lemon. I think I’ll stick to slicing my bananas into my Raisin Bran.Tonight I’m testing out my air fryers ability to make the “perfect” baked potato. I placed two normal sized russet potatoes in the basket after stabbing them repeatedly with a fork and giving each one a loving massage with olive oil. I set it to air fry. Time set for 50 minutes at a temp of 400°. They were still a tad hard so I added another five minutes and that finished them off nicely. Dining Tip: Plain Greek yogurt makes an acceptable substitute for sour cream on a baked potato. If there is one thing I’m not happy with regarding this air fryer is its alert beeps. Usually half way through whatever cooking time you set, it will beep to remind you to shake or flip whatever you’re cooking. It will also beep to let you know the cooking cycle is done. The problem for me is the beep is so quiet I never hear it. I sit at my desk, right around the corner from the kitchen and still can’t hear it.The air fryer itself is so quiet I can barely hear it when it’s running. Thankfully I have Alexa to set those timers for me. OK, well I better end this review now or I’ll wind up writing a cook book. So in closing I have to say I am 100% happy and satisfied with my purchase.I did come across one other feature I'm not a big fan of. And that's the timer. It only counts down in full miutes until you are down to the last minute, when it converts to a seconds count down. So when you're cooking and the timer shows six minutes, you don't know if that means six minutes and 55 seconds, or six minutes and 2 seconds. That 53 seconds can make a big difference in an air fryer. But I monitor my cooking anyway, so it's not a deal breaker for me.

Overwhelming smell of hot plastic imparts to food
After several uses my air fryer still emits such a strong odor of hot plastic I put it in the garage when using it. My husband says the food tastes like burnt plastic. As much as I enjoy cooking with it, he’s right. I like everything about the unit except the taste of burnt plastic on the food. We no longer use it.

Easy To Operate - Excellent Results
After reading several online reviews and having had good experiences with our trusty Instant Pot we ordered this item. Although several people reported an objectionable smell for the first few uses we found odours quickly went away. Reading the manual carefully and adhering to guidelines is important to get best results (especially with cleaning procedures).Nothing could be easier to use and despite the number of program buttons most are just shortcuts to typical time and temperature settings. For us, we just use just five controls: Air Fry, Time, Temperature, Start, and Cancel. The rotary controls for time and temperature are efficient and allow you to make precise adjustments to these parameters instead of punching up/down buttons. But the real joy is in the results. The square basket holds more food than most typically round models with the same volume specification. Air flow is excellent and hot spots are minimized. An interlock switch allows the cooking basket to be removed easily to check progress and to redistribute/stir the food for more uniform cooking. Reinsertion of the basket allows cooking to resume without loss of settings.More healthy cooking for this family!
