Hopefully you are (free) to choose a well written book. I also know there are many slightly less comprehensive free books on the web. I had a few other physical Calculus books, including Thomas, bought at used text book stores for even less than $15. I needed a serious review. Typical comments about e-books follow. I did not want to carry a 1000 page book with me because its heavy. The tablet and Kindle made me lazy. I have a tablet so thus the e-book purchase. I use the zoom feature like everyone else. It is easier for me to read technical books on a 27 inch screen rather than a portable tablet. Clearly there are free video sources of Calculus available on well known video sites. At one point Thomas was associated with MIT. I did not take the time to compare this version of Thomas to other newer versions. I did not consider launch codes, access codes, or other additional materials that some students may need to consider.

Overall good textbook. I've used it for 2 out of 3 of my calculus courses so far. The authors keep the material challenging throughout but not completely unwieldy.

Tough to read, a few errors.
The textbook is a rather tough read. So much so that it broke up my perfect 4.0 GPA. I got a 89% in the class (Calc1), bringing my GPA to 3.95. I was reduced to looking for help on YouTube and flirting with paid subscription services from Wolfram alpha and StudyPug.

more than you really need for a first time exposure to calculus, meaning you will use this book likely for calc 1,2,3 and 4

This is the best book I have ever read on calculus. Highly recommended for folks who wants to live in calculus and enjoy the intricate story functions, equations. If you want to just understand calculus not for marks, you can go for it.
