Favorite Meals from Williamsburg (Menu Cookbook)

I thought I was getting a new book so I was a little disappointed in the condition but I love the book so it was worth it.

If you've ever visited Colonial Williamsburg and enjoyed the food offerings there, you will enjoy this cookbook. Some of the places that offer up recipes in this book are sadly no longer a part of Colonial Williamsburg. At least this cookbook gives us a chance to recreate some of the dishes we enjoyed while they were still open. The cheese crackers in the beginning of this book are totally addictive. Triple the recipe, seriously. Many of the recipes are presented in a full meal format, though you can certainly pick and choose what you want to make from the menus given. I like the menus for special holiday meals or family events like birthdays. They aren't simple, quick affairs. You will need time to prep for each recipe/dish as well as complete each recipe. If you have someone to help in the kitchen, all the better as extra hands will definitely help. Remember that some of the food is based on what people ate a long time ago, and may not appeal to everyone so substitutions might need to be made. If you do decide to go for a full menu, when everything is done and on the table, it really is a spectacular sight. The recipes in this book give you a chance to Enjoy new (old) foods and find some family favorites.

Great recipe cook especially if you have or plan to Visit colonial Williamsburg.. Taste of History in your Kitchen .. Huzzah!

Although published in 1982 this book has some wonderful colour plates of Colonial table settings and a small preface of the history of Menus of Colonial days. The fusion of English Scottish ancestry, local produce and then the Indian culture using corn really helps bring alive what it was like for the food of Colonial times.
