Will Barnet: Painting Without Illusion. the Genesis of Four Works from the 1960s

I love the works of Will Barnet, particularly his paintings of home and hearth from the 1960’s . The book is now a staple for me.

For very little money you can see how a major American Artist develops his work using sketches.The color repros are good The text is informative.THe Hale book is pricey. I like the work in this book better than his more popular work . The cats seem a little trite sometimes,but they are sincere examples of his taste and life style.He started out as a socially conscious painter. He would be taken more seriously if he had stuck to his early outlook.He is like Alex Katz,his audience is more in the intelligencia But less of Norman Rockwell subject matter. Katz has been called the Rockwell of the intellectuals.
