Assumptions without questions. Not a smart move
Zac is a jerk and quite dense in this book. He expects actions and words from Gwen without acting on them first. He also can't seem to see what Elizabeth is actually after from him. His jealousy is aggravating after all of the times he breaks dates with Gwen. Since we only have our experiences as looking glasses into others it makes the reader wonder what is really happening between Zac and Elizabeth. Although you know Zac is faithful the same cannot be said about Elizabeth. The mystery surrounding the artist Mason is evil.

A Blast From the Past
A fun look back into the eighties. Romance novels (at least Jayne Castle's) have changed in how the leads interact. Heroines from this time period were plucky but, well, a bit less independent in their thinking. I came of age in the 70s and 80s -- and well remember the power business suit and the obsession with "looking right for the job." Heck, you could take a whole semester class in that back then. The protagonists seem a little dated today, but looking at the progression in Jayne's/Jayne Anne's/Amanda's work over the past decades is part of the fun.I still like the characters and the mystery is good enough to prod the romance along to the next level.

Art and magic
Another one of Ms. Castle/Ms. Krentz's earlier romantic mysteries set in the 1980s. I enjoy Ms. Krentz's writing style and was engaged in the mystery from the first chapter. Zac and Gwen have a few relationship issues in this one as well as solving a complex little mystery involving one of Gwen's neighbors. On to the next.

Great reading
It is nice to see some of the authors early books available in ebooks. No one had a cell phone. Long distance calls in the evening for lower fees. Using a typewriter? A coffee machine that takes forever to brew.We have seen a lot of changes over the years.

Things are moving forward
I enjoyed this tale. The mystery was pretty good - had me guessing for quite a while, although I did figure it out well before the end. And the romance between the two lead characters is progressing slowly. I have to admit there are times when I'd like shake both of them violently and scream, "Just wake up and see what's going on here!" But overall I have enjoyed this entire series and look forward to reading "The Fatal Fortune."

Good
I like this series. Nice short little mysteries that the heroine is always getting caught up in while the hero sorts them out. Makes me laugh too.

Recommended for serious Jayne Castle fans
While I found it arduous to finish the first and second adventures of Guinevere Jones and Zachariah Justis (Gwen and Zac), I found this third adventure more interesting. I was less annoyed by the distracting evidence of the budding author's learning curve and more interested in the many foreshadows of better things to comer in future novels. I found the story interesting, although the solution to the mystery was obvious to this reader long before Zac put everything together. The character development of Carla was also good to see.

A good read
No complaints; enjoyed reading this novel. Huh? Amazon says 14 more words required so here goes:One Two Three Four Five Six Seven Eight Nine Ten Eleven Twelve Thirteen Fourteen.

Bit slow but worth a go.
Just like Fatal Fortune, this is a bit drawn out. That said I still have to give it 3 stars because the story is there but could have done with being shorter. Gwen (Guinevere) spends too much time wondering if she can really trust Zac which I found a bit irritating. Keen fans will love it anyway.
