I did not realize what a martingale style dog collar was until this arrived. I may never buy another style. This fits our dog very well and matches the 3/8" wide leash we bought previously. The collar slips over her head and fits loosely around her neck until she goes the wrong way, then it tightens up.Update: I bought another pattern, tribal seas orange, and won't get that pattern again: It looks like a Halloween design! Our black cat looks good in it, so it's not a complete loss. I really like the variety of designs available through Yellow Dog; I just don't like all the designs. My favorite for our dog is the Tiki Print. Eventually I want to get a complete set of that pattern.If you don't like your first YDD, try another. When they are on sale, they are cheap enough to experiment. Our dog doesn't wear clothes. She doesn't even like to wear her sweater when it's cold. YDD is how I dress her up when she goes out.
