House of Dolls: A Superhero Thriller

Sometimes dreams do come true - just not how you expect them to.
The world building with 5 different governments, each with their own capabilities where people can have strange powers that classify them on the top with non-abled people on the bottom - wildly successful!Seeing an ordinary person gain powers and come to terms with their new position is a blast.I did receive a copy from a book giveaway.

A Narcissists Dream
While an interesting power concept the "hero" is a sex addict/horn dog of the first degree, apparently intent on trying to nail everything that walks by & apparently no moral values at all. When that's not enough, he animates sex dolls, imbues them with his thoughts & gets back to work. I quit reading when he buys a sex doll that looks like his wife, who's in a coma due to some unspecified wrong of his while screwing around on her. There are bizarre subplots of spies, treason & sex torture also. I quit at the halfway mark & deleted it from my collection. Not badly written, but I got tired of flipping past the latest freaky sex & was having trouble keeping track all the different women who seem to find this scumbag appealing. If the author had cut out most of the weird sex, I think there may actually be a story in there somewhere. Hence the 3 rating instead of lower.

This one really pulled me in.
By the end of it, I really felt a strong similarity to the TV show Heros (which I really loved). I was a little confused at the beginning, but the farther I got, the stronger the story pulled me on. I wanted to find out what was going to happen with the characters. There are a lot of strong characters here. I don't often remember the names of the major characters in stories that I read (even stories that I love), I did after reading House of Dolls. I agree with some of the comments that this may be Harmon Coopers best series yet. I very much expect the next book to be better than the first (as he's launched quite a few people in play). Unfortunately Amazon's rating system doesn't go over a 5.

The OP Womanizing Puppeteer
A very interesting world filled with an amazing assortment of characters. Although, I must say that Ramon kind of comes out being a bit OP with his superpower. It would of been just as amazing if his power worked out simply as if he was just some kind of puppeteer with collected an assortment of "dolls" to animate and command. Yet, it seemed overkill with including the ability to manipulate stuff like ink and even elements like fire and water that would of fit better with other powersets.Otherwise, we have a collection of some amazingly developed characters living in a chaotic and mysterious world. Hopefully, we come to discover exactly why Ramon feels so responsible for his wife's death and how his various relationships develop.

A Twisted on the Hero Idea
Picked this up when it came out and couldn't put it down once I started. I'm an old school comicbook guy and I love a wide range of hero's, anti-hero's and villains. This book takes a very different look at how society would end up if a LOT of people had super powers and what it means to be a Hero to everyone. By the end you can see why the groups that may start one way end up with a very different feel/look at the end. Really enjoyed the world, the characters, and the dialogue. I really like a lot of the supporting characters and I'm really excited to see the 2nd book and evetually this will probably go into my audible collection also once that comes out.

His better superpower story
The pacing and story balance is much, much better here than it was in Cherry Blossom Girls. It managed to grab my attention and keep it, which CBG just couldn't do. It still reads a lot like an action movie, and most of those I find as better sleep aids then entertainment, but it has a solid story and the parts of it pull together well. I can't call it great, there are still some elements of setting building, story building, and story flow that are missing or are poorly implemented, but overall it's worth a read.

Fun superhero series
This is a fun start to a superhero series focused on a normal guy living in a world where superpowers exist. He works his way through living with a secret that has caused him to act a bit wild. As he starts to get used by not one but two spies, he starts to regain control over his life and future. Fun story!

Another good Harmon Cooper Book
Honestly, there's not a lot more that I can say other than Harmon Cooper knocked it out of the park again. Story overall was good, and really worked on flushing out the main character. The only reason I rated this 4 stars instead of 5 was because some of the supporting characters weren't developed enough. Definitely worth picking it up though.

A fun read but not what I expected
New to this genre, wasn't sure what to expect, it was funny, rambled a bit then rushed the end. I am tempted to read the next one, whilst not complex, there are a few layers and sub plots woven in.

Deep start to the series
Living in a world where superheroes exist, the main character has his flaws. He should be unlikable, but the negative aspects of his character endear you to him as he explores new found powers in spite of himself. This is a world that has had clearly a lot of development put into it, and with deep political and emotional intrigue abound, it is a real page-turner.
