Q: Do these have a rubber or plastic type of backing? my new table says to only use cloth placemats and coasters. no plastic, silicone, or rubber.

The backing is a netted cloth. There is no plastic, silicone or rubber.

Q: Are they working well?

They absorb moisture well. However, they don't sit flat. They have been sewn with padding in the center. No problem with heavy mugs, but most glasses seem a little shaky sitting on them. I've never had anything spill, but maybe I've just been lucky. They look nice.

Q: how do you clean them?

I'm not sure, Amber. I think I would just wipe them clean with a little bit of soapy water.
