If you love knitting hats and have intermediate knitting skills AND an undying desire to make anyone who sees them jealous .... this is the hat book for you. But be very ready to do hat knitting differently, like WAY differently. Otherwise this will go down in your "story" as the most frustrating thing ever.To know if you can approach this with the awe and delight it deserves, take a look at her website first. Love Woolly!
I seriously love Woolly Wormhead's patterns. (Check out her Ravelry shop if you aren't already familiar with her.) These are just a few hats I made from the book -- silver/gray hat is Corella, brown hat is Northend, and blue hat is Skelter. I've made almost all the hats in the book, most of them multiple times. The patterns are very clear, and the book includes tutorials for techniques used.

The author
Wooly Wormhead has finally published a book! I'm so happy! she makes the best hat patterns. They usually come in several sizes which is important since I have a big head and my son's is even bigger. Thank You, Wooly.

Not for a beginning knitter
These are all lovely patterns. In my opinion they are all intermediate to experienced level. I’m sure an adventuresome beginner could handle most of them but it might involve some frustration. In the end it’s worth the money just for inspiration.

Interesting patterns. Instruction sometimes hard to follow
There are a lot of hat patterns and knitting instruction in this book and if you don't have anything like it then you might like this book very much. I found the instructions a bit hard to follow at times, though. One of this things this book goes into at length is sizing, including discussion of negative easeand why one size does not fit all. I learned that I have probably been making hats too big, by not considering negative ease. Using ribbing for the band helps with sizing, but still I may be measuring wrong.I like to work hats in the round. Many of these are worked flat and then bound up with kitchener. It probably gives interesting hat designs, but it seems to be a pain in the ass to work. I can deal with kitchener for 12 st at the end of a sock, but not 96 st up the side of a hat. So, I would probably not make most of these patterns. The men's hats look like skull caps and I would not make any of them. Some of the kids' hats look fun and interesting. But maybe not worth the effort in the complicated stitch patterns unless the hats will be passed on.I really liked the look of the hat called "Infilare", but I could not understand the pattern description for reaching down five rows to the wrong side and then knitting from the back and front needle, all while working in the round. I know how to tuck and don't think it is very hard once you understand the mechanics, so I'm pretty sure that the instructions were less clearly written than they might have been. If there were a tutorial for the 'tucked' pattern used for Infilare, I would like to see it. But I can't do this pattern from the written instructions.Given the large amount of info on line and the ability to adapt stitches and patterns and colors to make an infinite number of hats for a finite number of friends and family, I would not pay money for this book of hat patterns.I received a digital review copy of "Knit Hats with Woolly Wormhead" by Woolly Wormhead from Stackpole Books through NetGalley.com.

Charts impossibly small in Kindle version
I bought--AND RETURNED--the Kindle version. The charts are impossibly small to read even at the largest available magnification on my large screen desktop. I saw in the reviews that this is also a problem with the printed version. So sad as I really wanted this book.

Una garanzia!
Il libro è molto bello. Le spiegazioni sono chiare, ci sono modelli per donna, bambino e uomo. Ci sono tantissime tipologie di cappelli e con diverse tipologie di filato e con diversi livelli di difficoltà. Consiglio davvero l’acquisto.

Wonderfully varied selection of amazing hat patterns
This is a lovely book for anybody looking to explore hat shapes and forms in knitting that go beyond knitting round and round until you have a functional, but very plain beanie. There are hats knit in numerous shapes but also in numerous ways. Some are knit sideways, or in other exciting forms. Most are given in written instructions, with charts given for a couple of designs that most benefit from being charted.Though so many of these hats step beyond the basic beanie, knitters should not be discouraged in trying some of the newer forms as the direction is so comprehensive that knitting the hats is a pleasurable exercise of discovery rather than a difficult slog of trying to fathom what the designer meant. Everything is well explained and comprehensively given. The method of garter stitch grafting is wonderful.Though the book is split into sections (Hats for children, for example) the sizes given are so varied that most designs can be knit for young children up to a larger adult head circumference.A really wonderful book to return to over and over again. Thoroughly amazing.
